<Maynard>22-250 Fast Twist Heavy Bullet Load Data
Greetings,
I'm looking for load info for a 22-250 with fast twist using heavy bullets, bullets in the 69 to 80 grain range.
Can someone point me in the right direction.
Thanks much

<Bruce Gordon>I have a 22-250 Ack Imp. with a fast twist barrel. The Ack. Imp. allows about 5 grains more capacity than the regular 22-250.
My most accurate load has been 39 grains of Reloader 22 with Federal match primers and 80 grain Berger bullets using Winchester brass. Out of a 22" barrel it gets about 3150 fps. If memory serves correct, the standard 22-250 case has about 38 or 39 grain capacity so that powder load would be about ideal for the standard case as well.

tsieroI've used 75 gr Hornady A-Maxs exclusively and 30.5 gr of 4064 does real well. I've had good luck with H-380 and BLC-2. The 4064 load produced 3150 fps out of a 28" barrel with a 1/7" twist and low pressures.

GeorgeSWhat do you gents use these fast-twist/heavy bullet rigs for? Coyotes? P-dogs? 'Chucks? Deer?
Are the bullets frangible?
I've got a Shilen match grade .224 blank w/1-8" twist sitting around.

ACRecurveGeorgeS,
I use my 22-6mm Rem for pdogs, coyotes and TX whitetails. It's a Mod 70 Win with a 26" Douglas and an 8 twist. I just neck down 6mm Rem brass and load 47 gr RL-22 and a 75 grain AMAX. Shoots 1/4 to 1/2" groups (depending on whether I've been shooting my 470 much) at 100 yds and about the same at 200...getting 3500 fps. It's wearing an old B&L 4000 6-24X. The 22-250 class cartridges are probably a little easier on barrels.
Good Hunting,
Andy Cooper

Deaddog1440You might be careful not too push the bullets too fast. I have used 75 grain A-Max bullets in a 220 swift and they blew up as soon as they left the barrel on a Prairie dog hunt in Wyoming. They worked fine in Missouri. The rounds were sitting in the sun and it caused a little more pressure than the bullets could handle. The rounds were Max loads. I assume 22-250 Imp is equivalent to 220 swift. Just a little info for you.
