I'm going to Texas Coyote Hunting in a few days and I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions for "THE" bullet to use in my .223 and .223 Ackley....

The choice is almost too much. I like the 50gr Sierra Blitz in my .223 Remington VLS w/ a Leupold VXIII 6.5x20.40

There is NO best bullet in a 223.

The real trick is to find a bad bullet in a 223!

Match the characteristics of the bullet to the game you are hunting and it will do its job.

It would be nice if all calibers had the vast selection that the 22 bore has available.

A buddy of mine took 2 at once with a 69gr. from his AR15. I am sorry that I don't recall the brand name of the bullet. derf

I agree with R. Walter, the 50gr. Seirra BlitzKing with 27 gr. of Varget or 27 gr. of 748 gets the job done. I have used 223 exclusively on coyotes for 15 years and nothing has was crawled away using 50 or 55 gr. Blitzking, Nosler Ballistic Tip, or Hornady VMax. They are all super bullets in the 223.

The Sierra Blitz bullet is a pointed lead spitzer type bullet. Sierra recommends not exceeding speeds of 3,400 - 3,500 fps or so I recall. Great for small game/varmints.

The Sierra BlitzKing is a plastic tipped spitzer type bullet al la Nosler. To my knowledge the BlitzKing has been made by Sierra for maybe 7 - 8 years or so. Never used Sierra's BlitzKing version; always used a Nosler when I wanted one of these kind of bullets.

I've been useing .52 grain speer on and off for years in any of the .224s and I've found it to be dynimite on Kangaroos, goats,Dingos(Wild dogs),pigs and fallow deer.Also the 55gn Nosler blitz is a favoriteof mine.I have always felt that the ideal bullet weight for .223 is 50 to 52gns

Thanks guys....I have on hand, 40 gr. v-max that leaves the muzzle at 4007 fps in my .223 Ackley, the 50 gr. V-Max and 50 gr. Nosler BT that leaves @ 3750fps the 52 gr. Speer @ 3740fps. I am planning to start off with the 40 gr. V-Max and see how that does....If I need to, I can switch to the 50 or 52 grs. I have used the 6BR with the 58 gr. V-max at 3640 for years and I KNOW that is a real killer. Suggestions are always welcomed....George

I've had the best experience with Sierras. They are cheap to shoot and VERY accurate, especially box-to-box.

I've tried most,but I always come back to 50gr v-max.

The 70g BTHP MatchKing (#1505) bullets are the most accurate in my gun, followed by the 60g HP Varminter (#1500) and then the 75g HP Varminter (#1510).

Most of the MatchKing and Varminter bullets are available in 250 packs, some are available in 500 packs.

These are the most accurate bullets in my rifle.

My gun likes the 40 gr. V-Max moly bullets the best. I've never had any problems getting quick, clean kills.

Simply use the most accurate non-match, non-FMJ bullet your rifle prefers.

My sentimentel favorite is the tried-and-true Hornady 50 grain SX, but most of the expanding bullets out there will suffice for coyote and kill them cleanly.

I'm with Vulpes - I shoot large quantities of Hornady 50 gr. V-Max's and Speer 50 gr. TNT's annually to the great dismay of countless Foxes.....

PD47's spot-on with is assessment, pretty much any brand-name varmint bullets in the right weight range for the .233 Rem & AI will get the job done. Avoid bargan basement no-names in .224" and you'll be successful.

Pot a yote for mee too.....

My preference in .22's is 55 grainers. I use the Winchester bulk packed(read cheap). I use the same bullet on deer in .243 and they work fine---yotes should be no problem. P47D is correct that finding a bad jacketed bullet in .223 would be difficult. My other .22's will do great with cast bullets---but I have not found any load that works with cast in .223.
