First bobcat

rhynedFirst bobcat
I called in my first bobcat today. I was about ready to move to another spot when it showed up. I had been calling off and on for about 15 minutes. The call was off when I saw it, but the decoy was still on. It slipped out of a big briar patch at around fifty yards. It just stood there staring at the decoy. I shot it with a 55gn v-max out of a 223. It didn't go far. It weighed 25lbs.

Bobby TomekCongratulations! Bobcats are often slower to respond to a call than other predators -- or should I say they are slower to arrive on the scene as they move in with typical cat stealth.
I've had a few that basically charged in at the beginning of the calling sequence, but that is the exception and not the rule with bobcats.
Did you save the pelt? If in good condition, they are actually worth a bit on the fur market.

Tx6BRCongrats on the cat. You are probably hooked on calling for sure now.
I call in a lot of cats each year. I'll split their times coming in at real quick or around the 20 minute mark. I usually sit on a set for 30 minutes anyway. I've killed far more coyotes sneeking in then than anything else.
I was about to leave a stand once while night calling. Run the light around just one more time and had a big tom coming in. That was a full 30. You just never know on a cat. It can be quick or long.Your's was about average.

rhynedI think I'm going to have it mounted. The only damage on the pelt is a quarter-sized hole at the exit. Looks like I'll spend money on it instead of making money.

rhynedI've got pictures, but I don't know how to post them. Any help?

Bobby TomekYou have to upload them to photobucket.com or a similar outfit
Then just copy the image code and paste it into your text here -- and presto, it appears.
If you want, e-mail me a photo at btomekATgvec.net (replacing, of course, the AT with @). I will gladly post it here for you.
