Blitzking vs Vmax

I'm curious as to how the blitzkings compare to vmax and bt's in 40,50 and 55's in .223. I just purchased a Remington 700 in .223 and need some good varmit loads. I have a problem with to many bobcats that i'm going to cure. Thanks for any help [Big Grin]

Very similar bullet design, both my Hornet and K Hornet will put 40 grain V Max's or BlitzKings in the same hole using the same load. It seem's to me the V Max's are a little more frangible, but that's just based on watching gophers pop, they both shoot great! They both shoot significantly better than Ballistic Tips in my rifles, and cost less to boot. I like em both.---Shoot Safe---montdoug

I've used the 55gr BKs and the 60gr VMaxs in my 223 with great success. Sierra warns that the BKs should not be pushed past 3600fps (I think). This shouldn't be a problem with a 223. I don't know if there is a similar limitation for the VMaxs, but I have always assumed the name implied "maximum velocity"?
I'd go with the cheaper ones, although I did find that the boat-tail on the 55gr BKs made them easier to seat than the flat base on the 60gr VMaxs.

I've only used the Hornady VMAX's in .17Rem. but it's the darnest bullet I've seen. How they can make something that small (20grs) shoot so accurately is beyond me. It's a winner. Best wishes.

I actually called Sierra about the 3600 fps limitation on the BKs, because I'm pushing the 50 BKs at 3800 in my 22-250. They said it's no problem. You can pretty much push them as fast as you want, within reason. It's the Blitz bullets that have the limitation. However, they are great for the 223.

I prefer the, or should I say my 223 prefers the 50 gr. BlitzKing over the 50 gr. Vmax. I use Vithavuori N133 for 3350 fps an sub .5 MOA accuracy. If your rifle has a 1 in 12 twist or faster you might want to try either the 60 gr. Sierra Varminter or the 60 gr. Vmax if you are going to use it bobcats. I have found the heavier 60 gr. bullets @ 3150 fps do a better job on coyotes.

My 223's and 22/250s seem to have a major preference for the BlitzKing, in all bullet weights.

I load BK's in my .220 Swift at 3693-3700+ and they shoot fine for me. I wish they made the game kings in 40gr btsp but all I found was 55gr BTSP's.

My partner and I each have .223s and .22-250s (yes, we each have several of each caliber). Here in Colorado, on prairie dogs, we've used Sierra BKs, Nosler BTs, and Hornady V-Maxs. Each gun has a preference, lot numbers make a difference, as well as powder lot #s. We buy whichever is cheapest at the time and know at least one gun will shoot them well. All have done well. [Wink]

I've used both in my Hornet. I can't pick them apart, although I think the BlitzKing might have the edge at longer ranges (for a Hornet, that's 200 yards). The BKs were good enough to give me a gold medal in the national titles last year -- so I won't complain too much!

Actually, it's not the velocity that gets these bullets...it's the RPMs..The faster you shoot them the faster they rotate and will actually blow up from centrifugal force.

When you use a .22-250 you normally are using a 1-14 barrel compared to a 1-9 barrel on a savage .223 and a 1-12 barrel on a Remington and winchester.223. You can crank them well in the .22-250 because of this.

A buddy had a savage .22-250 with a 1-12 barrel and he was blowing the Blitz bullets up inside 50 yards. However Speers 50 grain TnT survived the ride as did the V-Max bullets.

I personally like the V-Max the best....a very close second is Speer's 50 grain TNT....

Blitzkings aren't a problem at higher velocities or faster twists........its Blitz bullets.Have had great performance and accuracy with V-Maxes and plan on trying Blitzkings at some point as Sierra tells me they are good past 4000fps no problem.
