Well, this morning I had the pleasure of meeting one of the forum members -- Geedubya -- and I must add that it was an honor to meet him. He's truly one of the good guys.
GWB had bought a gun I listed, and after meeting him in Flatonia, I drove back home. Less than a mile from the house, on a property for which I have permission to hunt, I spotted a coyote about a quarter-mile out in a semi-open pasture. He was obviously honing in on some free-ranging chickens.
With the strong wind, he never heard the truck. I drove past, parked, got out and grabbed my 7mm Bullberry Contender. I recently swapped scopes and put a Nikon Monarch 6x42 on it after having variables atop it the entire time I've had it.
To make a long story short, I dropped off into the treeline, got as close as I figured I could without getting busted and ranged the 'yote at 279 yards. With a 200 yard zero, I held just above the 'yote's back and then moved the crosshairs to just over his head to compensate for the brisk crosswind.
At the shot, he spun, bit once at his shoulder and went down. The 120 grain TSX had taken him through both shoulders and left an exit the size of a quarter. I'm going to open him up later to assess the internal damage.
I was initially worried about being limited to 6x, but it did not hinder me the least bit on this shot, and that's about as far as I'll ever shoot with this rig anyway. So I think I am going to like this scope on my 7mm Bullberry...
