1st ground squirrel shoot for 2008 in CA
I got out last weekend near Paso Robles CA and had a blast shooting squeaks. The warm sun had the fat ones out sunning themselves.

Marlin 25MN .22 mag. Leupold 1x4 scope.

Nice video, really enjoyed it. I was wondering, does anyone eat those ground squirrels? They look pretty similar to our fox squirrels here, and people eat them all the time, I was just curious. Wish we had that many oppurtunities for shooting squirrels, too!

Nope, you don't eat them or touch them. They have been found with both Bubonic and Pnuemonic plague and about once every 5 years someone here in California dies from one of those diseases. They've found plague infected ground squirrels and prairie dogs in Arizona and Texas also.

Unless you are one of those people who loves to go to Rennaissance Fairs and want that realistic "Black death" experience I would leave them alone.

Here's a video my brother and I made a couple of years ago.
