Fair Price for a Savage 12FV Package
One of my good friends has a pre-Accutrigger 12FV in .22-250 with a Bushnell Elite 3000 (or 3200) 5-15x40 scope already mounted. It has the Sharp Shooter trigger installed. It probably has 200 rounds down the tube and shoots 1/2" groups (I've seen them)I would like to offer him a fair price for this rifle. Any input would be welcomed by both of us. Thanks!

Buying a gun from a friend can be a real advantage because many times you shoot with them and know the gun. But you have to be fair but you need to pay what the gun is worth. I've found that when they want to sell I just get them to give me their price. That happened at lunch last Friday I picked up a pre accu-trigger 12FV for $300. I know the gun and it shoots. It's had about 40 rounds through the barrel. He liked the gun it's the wieght he didn't like. He wants a lighter say 6.5 pound Savage as opposed to the 8.75 pound gun. You have to ask I do that rather than lose a friend.

Come on guys. Surely someone has an opinion about what they would pay for this rig. I was thinking $375 for the rifle and $225 for the scope. $600 total. Whaddaya tink?

Have you priced the 12FV? I seem to remember seeing this @ Gander Mountain for about $400 last time I was there.

I would pay $450-500 tops.

The local Gander Mtn in central arkansas has them for $449. That's the going price here in AR for a new FV.

I always try to pay what is fair especially if it is a friend. Ask him what he needs for the package and if he is to close to new price (and you don’t want to hurt his feelings) go to the gun show and offer to pay him what a dealer will be willing to pay plus a few bucks and buy his way into the gun show. I use this method with friends it works and nobody gets mad.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies. Going to a gunshow would probably be out of the question for us because of our location and schedules. Is there any information in a blue book of gun values or something like that?

I just got of the phone with a couple of dealers in my area and the best I can do for a new Accutrigger 12FV in .22-250 is $479 out the door. The best price I've seen on the Bushnell Elite 3200 5-15x40 is $260 shipped. 75% of that total is $554 and that doesn't include the base and Signature rings. I'm thinking $575.

Let him set the price he wants. My opinion is that you are a bit on the generous side with your price. If he gives a price at or less than your 575, then there should be no hard feelings. That trigger, depending on if its the competition trigger or the benchrest trigger (now discontinued) is worth something as well.
