Ok Deer season ends this Saturday and I have struck out ( so far ). I would like to try shooting fox at night with a bow. I need some hints on what to do to be successful. I am good with calls and use the rabbit and rodent styles. I'll most likely use a head lamp. ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW?

I've used a bow at night with a lightwieght tracer light mounted in the stabilizer and a Peztel headlamp. You will have to regulate the headlamp to the direction you will be looking in at full draw, this will be somewhat off the your left hand side if you are right handed, making it nearly usless for looking around with.
Triduim or some other kind of high luminosity sight will help and a rodent call is very good.

I like the rodent call also but have only used it in the morning. It works great as does the rabbit in the afternoon. I have a three way head lamp with Green and red illuminations on it as well as a high intensity white light. I use a scope type system and even in poor light works fine but I may switch to a swivel light. What type of tracer light have you used?

I killed a fox with my bow while deer hunting from the ground 3 years ago. It had just snowed so I had on white coveralls. With the fresh snow I was almost invisisble. I set up 25 yards downwind off a trail expecting to see deer when all of a sudden a redfox came down the path. They were in season but I was so stunned to see a fox this close during the day that I did not draw fast enough. By the time I was at full draw the fox was around the corner. Not knowing how to "call" a fox I just tried to make a Squirrel sound with my mouth. It must have worked because the fox came running back and stopped broadside not more than 10 yards away looking for dinner. He never saw me as I released the arrow. He jumbed at the shot and only ran 30 yards before piling up. That was the first and last time I ever had a chance to do get a fox with my bow. I had a full sized mount made of him. It was a great hunt even though I did not see any deer!
