Weaker (less strong) ejector spring
Is it possible to replace a M700 ejector spring with a smaller/shorter one? When shooting prairie dogs, it is easy when the shooting is fast, to deposit brass all over the place and lose some. I would prefer it only fly 1-2 feet as opposed to 4-6 feet. I got the idea when my brothers M700 ejector stuck and he had to pull each round off the bolt, which turned out to be advantageous. Usually I can open the bolt and hold the other hand over the port and catch the brass, but this is not possible at all times?

thanks

Yes, and yes...

Brownells stocks about any spring you could hope for. (Brownells.com) Wolf is another source. Or you can go factory... they might have something "lighter..."

The other alternative is to take a factory spring and weaken it. Clip off a coil or two. Go slow. Putting them back is not practical. OR Heat it up, hot... propane torch might not be enough... and let it cool and try it. If it is less "spring" then you got what you want in a part that is still the same size...

Obviously, if you leave the spring out, it won't kick anything anywhere...

From there we go into "deflectors." They work o.k. but can be obnoxious to look at and/or work around. luck. Happy holidays. Happy trails.

Cutting 1/2 to 1 coil off at a time is the least expensive and effective way to "weaken" your ejector spring.

I clip 2 coils off every PD rifle I own and off most of the varmint rifles I build, that will give you the 1-2' ejection you are looking for.
