458LottfanOne of my favorit Varmit Photos
Here is a photo of my Winchester M52 target rifle. with a couple of squirles I whacked in the gourd. Shooting Lapua Subsonics in the woods with this rifle is great. I hunt with a good friend around his home turf in Ohio. The only rule is Head shots only.
I shot 50 foot, four position matches with this gun and peep sights in High School as a Jr civilian member on a Colorado National Guard team. Took state two years in a row.

458LottfanThe scope came with the rifle. It is a Lyman 8X Jr TargetSpot. It is set up like an Urnertal (spelling) It floats in the mounts and spring loads against the adjustment knobs. Even with the small objective the scope is super clear in the dark woods. My Dad bought the rifle with apature sights and the scope for what the match apature sights are worth alone. The first year I took the Govener's Cup trophy he gave me the rifle. I will never part with it.
Thank you for the compliments!

onefunzr2Really nice rig and photograph.
Do you shoot the squirrels offhand?
What O.D. is that scope tube? I think 3\4" tubes look better on .22's than full size 3-9X 1" behemoths.

458LottfanAbout 4 out of ten are off hand the rest of the time I try to find a tree or stunp to rest off of. It would e a great type of hunt to practice using shooting sticks like used in Africa! But I don't have any yet.

VarmintGuy458LottFan: Wow! What a great picture and such a superb, Classy Rifle to really set it off!
I have owned several Model 52's over the years but have never fired one!
Like a fool the profit motive made me part with them!
Profit minded people (like me!) are not Classy!
I presently have in my possession though two absolutely mint Winchester Model 75 Target Rifles! They are both complete with original slings and original target aperture sights - and I have several models of clips for them including the very rare single shot adapter clips!
If I am not mistaken your nifty "Squirrel Gun" is an early Model in the 52 Winchester line?
Again thanks for posting the great photo of your rig and your quarry!
Long live the Model 52 Winchester!
Hold into the wind

onefunzr2Moderator T. Carr has a thread on how to make your own shooting sticks. You'll have to do a search in the Africa forum to find it. Mine worked out great for practice here at home. When I got to Namibia my PH had nice adjustable-leg sticks. But they only had 2 legs; not as rock solid as having three.

Don FischerLooks like someone took the return spring out! Everybody I knew used to do just that.
To make shooting sticks, I used two 4' 5/15" hardwood dowels cut to 30". Just dropped down about 4" and drilled a hole in each. Then used a thin stainless bolt and bolted them snug. Glued a strip of heavy string where the rifle sits and drilled out the bottom of the legs for 7d gal nails and glued them in the holes, cut off the heads after the glue is set well. Whole thing takes about 10 min.

22RimfireThat is one very nice rig. I myself have always been into the 22's. I have aquired quite a few interesting ones over the years as trade ins and such. Never had a 52 but one of these days one will end up in the collection. But I like to shot mine and not sell the nice older ones I find.

sscoyoteThat is a great photo. Sounds/looks like a great opportunity for an article for a magazine.
