I want an electronic call. Beyong knowing that I want a wireless remote and rechargeable batteries. I will be using it for coyotes maybe fox or crows. What do I buy? I've bugeted $300.

I am a believer in the Foxpro calls but I am convinced that any electronic call will work. If the dogs are hungry they'll respond to just about any distress signal.

A hand call and motion decoy would be my budget set up.

I too believe most of the electronics out there do a fine job, but there are things to consider like volume you need the unit to put out. I personally use and am super happy with the Minaska Big Country. It has dual speakers one being a large TOA speaker. The unit can hold 100 sounds which you can keep or change.

With the budget you have set, I think the FOXPRO Spitfire has the best bang for the buck. They are only $200 and you can pick 24 sounds. You can order directly from FOXPRO or AllPredatorCalls.com. Both will program and ship the same day. Whoever you buy from, place your order over the phone. That way you can get some good coaching on sound selection.

I'm looking at one of the Phantom calls. Anyone have any input on those? I'd like to support a local business if I can. They're made in Maine.

With the Phantom Pro Series you get half the sounds and pay more. You also can't load or select your own sounds. But....it is your money. They will all call predators if used properly.

From my experience I would avoid Minaska calls at all costs. The one I paid $400 for failed after a few times out, they "repaired or replaced" it, not sure which since it looked like many parts were changed. It failed again. Then the next new or repaired one just doesn't work well. The remote works out to maybe 35 yds. The sound volume is not impressive. I asked for my money back, I was (still am) extremely pissed off. They said sure we'll refund your money, no mention of the UPS insured charges I incured sending the machine back to them, then they blew me off.

For $50.00 in parts and $25.00 for a 2GB MP3 player this makes one great E caller. sounds are limited to what you can find to down load from the net.
There are some who have made them remote also. with good results but more money.

I'd say Foxpro all the way, although if you are hunting in the far north you'll have about 40min. per "warm" battery life. I was calling Wolves in Alaska with a Foxpro and after a few calling sessions we'd have to put the warm batteries from our pockets in it and warm the "now" cold ones. It was -40 Fahrenheit and lovin it!!

If you want to spend 600 dollars on a call, then yes, Foxpro is great.

If you don't and enjoy getting satisfaction from something you've done yourself and love to see it work just as well as the Foxpro, then do what I did!

Go to Varmint Al's website and make the El Cheapo Caller! It's all plug and play!

You can download his sounds directly from the site. I have done what he has done and use the free program "Audacity" to mix my own sound calling sequences. It's fun and they work.

I recently have made an improvement to El Cheapo!

I bought a splitter for the MP3 player and have added a mini amp. Now the unit has 2 speakers and sounds so much better. Called in 4 dogs the first trip out this year!









I also built the Weasel Ball decoy he gives instructions there to make. I have had coyotes come in and attack it!


Total cost of this call is under 100 dollars...

I bought a Fox Pro Spitfire on Bob's recommendation and love it. A buddy and I were deer hunting and it was slow(boring)so I said how about putting the fighting crow sound on, within a few seconds(less than 10) we had 10 crows circling the field in front of the blind,I was impressed,add an owl decoy and a couple shotguns and the fun meter would be pegged.
