Anyone used one of these for varmint hunting. They seem to be cheaply priced, just wondering how they hold up and the quality

Personally I will not go less then a Burris perfer a Leupold or better.

Most cheap scopes are just that cheap.

I've got the Mueller Eraticator 8.5-25x50 on my .243 Ultra Rifle, great scope, it would cost considerably more to equal the optics of this scope. I also have the the 4-16x50, 3-10x44 and the 2-7x32, all are fine scopes. Here are some reviews...

wrongtarget, how do you think there optic compare to other more expensive scopes?

I've considered one of these before as I would just use it for daylight varmint shooting. I just need it to have clear optics and repeatable clicks for elevation and windage. I'm usually shooting low recoiling guns in bright sunlight so it doesn't have to be bank vault strong or have great light gathering ability. With these requirements in mind, one of the better mid price scopes that I've used have been the new Weaver V models.

The best scope I have is a Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16x40..The 4-16x50IGR compares very favorably to it... for all practical intents and purposes, I can tell no difference in the optic quality. I feel it would take fairly sensative optical equipment to measure the difference in resolution, brightness and clarity betweeen the two. Granted, the Mueller is a 50mm compared to the 40mm Bushy, but mounting difficulties aside, it doesn't matter to me as long as I can sight and shoot with it well. Mueller customer service is excellent, too, in case you're wondering, a few shooters at RFC have received scopes with minor defects, fuzz on a reticle, that sort of thing, Mueller replaced the scopes within a week and in every case, the shooters were very happy with the replacement scope and the service. If you're seriously interested, The Optic Zone has free shipping on them at this time and the best price I've seen.

I've got two of the Mueller 4-16s. One sport dot and one Varmint mildot. The sport dot spent a year on my 25-06 shooting 75 gr VMaxes. Great performance. It's on the .223 VLS now. The mildot is on the 25-06 now and I haven't shot it yet, but the optics are the same quality-great.

Hey Rj, what load are you using for your Encore 25-06 AND, is that a T/C heavy barrel you have there or a custom barrel????

I have a new T/C 25-06 26" blued barrel I haven't even put on the frame yet and I was thinking about trying the 75 Vmax bullets.

I just mounted a mueller erraticator on a Cooper varminter. I read the reviews and test results and for the money if it work good if not I have a 6.5-20x50 Leupold for a backup.

The Optic Zone will be getting some of the new 4-16x50 Tacticals in soon if anyones interested...great price, product and service!

What's your experience been with the Mueller?
I'll agree most (all?) cheap scopes are just that. Since you didn't mention any actual experience, if you don't in fact have any, how can you rate it as worse (or possibly better) than Burris, etc.? I know a lot of people swear by Leupold, won't have anything else, whatever. But, why does virtually everyone know how great the Leupold warranty is...? Because lots of them have problems too and get sent in for repairs. I don't own either and am not making any claims, just food for thought.

Factory 26" heavy with Boyds Lam stock. Forend has the neoprene washers installed.

My load is Win brass, 49.5 IMR4064, WLR primers with the 75 VMax bullets. This load give a new meaning to SPLAT when it connects. What is left of the PDs goes at least four foot in some direction, up, back, sideways etc.

I bought a Mueller 4-16x50 off of gunbroker.com for $169. That was the all-in price with free shipping. The seller on there is a retailer and he has several more listed. I haven't mounted it yet but it seems like a pretty good quality scope for the money.

I have a 4-10 x 44 Gold Class that I like a lot. I is quite a bargain, and I think on par with the Trophy 4-12 x 50 I used to have. Not as nice as the Burris Fullfield II, but $110 less.

Solid clicks, Love the center red dot. Well worth the money.

Personally, I use Weaver "T" model scopes on my varminters. I have never felt the need for more expensive (note "more expensive, not "better") glass. Even my T10 will easily let me see .224 holes in paper at 100 yds.
I have never felt a need for a variable power scope for varminting either!

I also have the 3-10x42 Gold and have no complaints. Its on a 3030AI, but will also see time on my 30Gibbs. I would not be fooled by its low price. Many new scopes start low and build a client base before increasing prices. I also have a Sightron which also increased in price. By the time they have a great reputation, the price has jumped considerably (good old supply and demand). There has been some good press on these in the hunting mags as well.

Well, I just received the 4-16x50 Mueller scope I ordered
from The Optic Zone, and mounted it on a new Tikka T-3,
in .223 Rem. Last night, by the light of the moon on
snow, out of my reloading/gun shop window, I put the
illuminated dot, on a bird feeder scaps munching rabbit,
and if this scope had been zeroed, there would have been
rabbit chunks under the feeder this morning. I can't speak
to the long term durability of this scope yet, but my
first impressions are this scope has good clarity, at
least on par with my Leupold VX-II, and good light
transmission, as evidenced by moonlight target
acquisition. The controls feel smooth, albeit a bit
of force is needed to adjust the objective, and
magnification ring, but I expect that will loosen up
over time. The next test will be repeatability,
and crispness of windage, and elevation, adjustments,
and that will come when I get the scope zeroed.

So far, this scope is looking very long in value. We
shall see if the Mueller holds up to the rest of my
testing, but the first impressions are very positive.

More on my Mueller. I was in and out weveral time in my truck yesterday shooting at different distances, checking targets, warming up in the truck (about 25o and snowing). This was a great opportunity for condensation since the scope was constantly changing temperature. I ever saw my breath hit the scope a few times. Never did the scope fog up. I am going to compare it to my Leupold VX-II sighting both into the rising sun to see if there is any difference between the two. So far it continues to be a very good scope. I especially like the horizontal and bottom crosshair heavy, the upper vertical thin, and the dot not attached to any of the crosshairs.
