.22-250AI

I just acquired a Sako 75 in .22-250AI and I'm a little concerned about the barrel length. The barrel is a little short of 23 inches. Will this be a problem. I will be shooting 50gr Nosler BT's out of this gun. Thanks.

What problem? You bought it. If you want max, max, max velocity, well, longer barrels help. Too late now. SAKO has a great rep... Mine put the first 5 into a nickel at 100 with me shooting and that was iron sights. (I was younger then...)

Mr. A "improved" the round for more capacity and longer case life. Find a balance with the bullet suitable for your targets and appropriate powders and don't expect "forever" barrel life and you should be thrilled.

As Mr. A said in his books, "use standard 'Swift' loading data..." ENJOY! Luck.

You will probably equal the 22-250 velocities from a much longer barrel, 22-250 AI gains a pretty good amount of capacity and speed.

Hi Steve,

You aquired a very nice rifle in an absolute perfect chambering, the .22-250AI. You don't have a problem. Try the heavier 55-gr or 60-gr bullets. Do you know if you have a fast twist barrel to stabilize bullets heavier than 60-gr?

Tyler and Buliwyf, I appreciate your input. I traded for this rifle, I gave up an AR15 in .204 because, to me, an AR just isn't as fine of a tool as a well built bolt action. The Sako was traded for and then was going to be sold so I made the trade when I could. The shorter barrel concerns me, but not too much. I'll just shoot it out and put a 26 inch pac nor on it.

I'm excited about this gun. I own a few Sako's now, a few L61's and now a 75. I'm not a huge fan of the 85, but I'm sure it's a good gun as well.

I had 2 guns built by the same gun smith in 22-250AI. One had a 26 inch barrel and the other had a 22 inch barrel.

I shoot the same load in both guns,a 50gr CT Nosler with 41 gr varget. Yes, I do get a a bit more velocity out of the 26 inch, but the coyotes go down either way.

I used the 22inch gun last hunt (easier to carry) and hit the first 8 from 40 yards out to 250. Missed my last shot (got too excited).

You will be fine with what you purchased. Shorter barrels tend to be more accurate anyway.

I believe I did. I asked if the shorter barrel on my gun would be a problem with the .22-250AI chambering.

Not a problem, your going to get probably 150 fps gain with the improved if you stoke the fires, and then lose about 25 fps per inch for the shorter barrel, so do the math.
It still works.

It should still hit 4 grand with a 50 grainer which is all I ask of it. I appreciate the input Bucko.
