Big foxes
We have had a number of super sized foxes shot here in the UK over the last year. The most recent and the largest being nearly 5ft from nose to tail and weighed in just over 38lbs.

Whats the biggest you've shot?

I've shot a few and trapped a bunch but never anything like that. He's up in coyote size. They couldn't be inbreeding with dogs could they?

That's more than double the size of the biggest foxes that we have here.

Differnt species/genus canine and vulpine so a differnt number of chromosomes 78 and 38 respectively. So no interbreeding

There have been recent reports of them possibly attacking and killing adult roe deer.

That is a big fox. Absolutely Coyote size without a doubt. I know that coyotes and dogs will crossbreed, have seen it too many times and shot my share of “COYDOGS” as I have heard them referred to.

If I were a betting person, I would bet that the extremely large fox is due in part to global warming… just a guess.

one theory that is currently being offered for consideration is they are getting bigger thanks to the increase in peri-uban and urban food sources over the last decade.

Holy Toledo! That is a big fox! the biggest I've personally seen from this area is about half that size. I feel the increase in cougar and coyote population probably has something to do with the decline in fox numbers and size, however man that is a nice one!

Good job! You going to get that mounted? I sure as heck would!!

As for global warming, you can thank Al Gore for that! Wink

I know here in the states, many foxes have become quite urbanized.

Massive .
Have shot hundreds here in Oz and they are the same species as their English forefathers. Never seen anything that begins to approach that size.

The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.

Well they are certainly getting bigger here in the UK.
There has been a steady number of big foxes 25-30lb being reported for about 10 years now.

Personally I believe the misguided animal rescue groups have hefty hand to play in this steady increase in size. They just love rounding up urban foxes, getting them fit and then taking them out into the less populated areas of the countryside and releasing them.

These urban foxes whilst often mangey have never really had to stuggle for nutrition. Living as they do out of domestic and commercial waste bins, discarded KFC and McD's, urbanites chicken coops and the local pet bunny population. My cousin had one that set up home on the railway sidings behind his city home that seemed to specialise in killing the local cat population. It was either that or it just loved road kill pussy.
