Recommendations Pipe Tobacco?
Looks like a lot of you fellas enjoy a good smoke. I'm looking for recommendations for a good entry tobacco for the pipe. I'd like a mild and smooth flavor. I have a new Peterson that's needing to be used. It's feeling neglected.

Any recommendations for a good online source for said tobacco? I live in an area where there are little tobacco stores that cater to cig buyers.
Not what I'm after.

Much thanks,
littlecanoe

Thanks Gents,

I'm new to the pipe. Always enjoyed my uncles who smoked some nice flavored tobacco. Apple maybe? At least that's what comes to mind. Had a great-uncle who puffed a wicked black blend! WOW. It was strong!

I'm looking for that occasional bowl for relaxation.

I'll give these a look.

Try a brand called Captain Black. Not too harsh, pleasant aroma and not as expensive as some of the exotic blends.Comes in a white can.The gold can of the same name is,to me, rather harsh & hot.
smoked the Captain for years til I quit altogether. Still miss the Captain at times.

When I was smoking the pipe I liked Captain Black the best too. Not expensive either. I still want to light up every once in awhile. Merg

Thanks for the replies.

I have a sample of a house blend ordered from a shop in MO. I'll give it a whirl and then maybe look at the Captain Black. The words "not expensive" do sound nice.

I have been smoking a pipe for almost 12 years. I get a pound for 38.00 after I buy 10 lbs the next one is free. It is a custon blend called 24k. I have smoked the ladies lov-it also. Usually the ones with cherry are kind of hot. I have a peterson also. I like the Eric Nording hand carved pipes.

The smoke ring is where I get my tobacco at! I usually do about a pound a month. Usually goes up a tad when I am off work in the summer!

Pipe smokers are old, are distinguished, and are gentlemen. They got that way by starting to smoke a pipe early on..... thumb

Littlecanoe,

I've bought all of my tobacco for years from Craig Tarler at

He sells a lot of different samplers or he can custome blend anything you want. He's a nice guy to boot.

I started smoking a pipe some 44 years ago. Great chain started in Tampa back then. Their Honey Cavendish is as mild and nice smelling as it gets. Their Balkan is very, very robust ... and has a wonderful strong smell if you like that.

Edward's in Dallas

They make terrific briar pipes.

Hard to go wrong with Blue Note.
or Black velvet.
or Patriot. i get a coffee blend when im in Pinehurst and mix it w/ blue note and its my favorite.
tried some mango last year at the beach but havent found a steady enough supply to justify buying another pipe just for it.

I generally favour flake tobaccos as they burn slower and cooler. My personal favourite is Erinmore Flake.

I, too, give the good Captain Black a nod. It's been 5 years since I've lit up though - at 45 had to go in for an aortic valve replacement, along with an aortic graft at the same time. Made a deal with the surgeon to stop smoking if he kept me going - so far we're holding up both ends of the deal!

I miss the pipe in the duck blind and in the deer stand though...but life is for the living...

What is really good is the shipping cost me less than if I drove there myself.

Very true. When I was younger I loved the smell of a good black cavendish. The reality was, it tasted like shit.

As I read down this thread I was planning to say the nicest aromas equal the most foul taste but both Cobra and Butch have beat me to it!
