NaphtaliIs the Mantle Club still in existence?
When I was at St. Louis (Missouri) University in the 1960s, several friends "persuaded" me to become a member of the Mantle Club. Within a few weeks of my joining, they quit. Shortly following, I quit. The reasons for us to cease membership was the suspicion that neither the Mantle Club nor its operating officers were kosher.
As I recall, my specific reason for leaving was that I was refused permission to read, examine, or have a copy of their by-laws. As I recall, the two heads of the St. Louis organization were James Frick, an entrepreneur who owned The Frick Building, and Oliver "Ollie" Dunbar. While these men must be long dead, I don't know whether the St. Louis Mantle Club is in existence. I don't know whether The Mantle Club as a national fraternal organization still exists.
When I used several search engines, I found scant information - Wilmington, Delaware,
Star newspaper,
circa July 1941, and a couple of court cases from the early 1940s. That's it.
Anyone who has knowledge of any additional facet of the Mantle Club, I welcome your information.
