I need to get this off my chest. What the he*# are they thinking ? You can't can't carry because the little hole you stick you fingers through rips every time. If you accidently put them on shelf wrong, and open, they all roll out hitting the floor and start hissing. And then there is the plastic bottle holders, I just just cant get my head that far up my azz to understand some packaging engineers. That is all, and I do feel better

Maximum packaging density with a minimum amount weight. Considering the amount of product that's produced and transported, saving a fraction of an inch or a fraction of an ounce per package adds up to a big overall reduction in energy useage and cost.

You'd probably be amazed at the amount of engineering that goes into packaging soda products. The fact that most of the packages make the trip to your home before breaking proves the engineers did their job. (Not that it's any consolation when 4 cans roll out and hit the floor, split open and spray their sticky contents all over the place.)

I was once at Shering-Plough (Mabelene) and listened to two engineers discussing how many turns on a bottle of fingernail polish would be acceptable to a woman and still keep the bottle from leaking. Often it is seemingly minor things that make or break a product.

I had a short discussion with guys from Golden Technologies, one of the Coor's beer companies.
Golden Technologies was setup to make money off of the tool building knowledge of Coors.
The guys said that Coor's is actually a packaging company - that is the packaging is 65% of the cost of the product.
In other words the beer that you drink is worth less than the can it comes in.

Especially if you're talking about Coors.
