How & where are trifold entrenching tools carried?
How are trifold entrenching shovels carried? Where on his person does an American infantry enlisted soldier carry it?

Since this entrenching shovel is issued by several European armies, perhaps all NATO member countries, how and where on his person is the tool usually carried by their infantry?

They are carried in a pouch on the pistol belt, in the back, just off center.

resides nicely behind the seat in the truck in a NonCombat situation.
Very handy EDC tool.
Aussie (& NZ I believe ) military & civilians use them too.

Are they really worth carrying ? I've got one, seems pretty flimsy, for it's intended use, compared to the earlier folding wooden handled tool. I use mine for light chores only.

Germans used to carry them on their belt. British soldiers used a wooded shaft with a detachable head like a pick axe but a spike and spade end.

Search 'British Entrenching Tool' in Google.

And every tenth or so man had a full sized spade on his backpack.

The 'best' entrenching tools had a fixed not folding shaft and were, of course, sharpened not only on the bottom edge but on the side edge so they could be used as a weapon in close in fighting.

Depending on the unit SOP, it goes on the outside or inside of the rucksack.
