Idiots abound. We have been using old phone books soaked in water for years to test penetration on loads + the approximate correlation to tissue. It is not uncommon to penetrate 12+ phone books.Only good use I have ever found for the yellow pages.

Did the penetration really matter? I think taking 1500 ft/lbs to the chest would tend to scramble things best left unscrambled.

They tested it, but on only one book. It didn't penetrated.

But .50 AE or so could be deadly even if there is no penetration due to huge amount of energy.

One of the best Mormon jokes I've heard (and from a lifelong Mormon - most I've met do have a sense of humor)...

A Mormon missionary is robbed in an un-named city, is shot in the process but is saved by the Book of Mormon in his coat pocket.
