I'm assuming your children are in IT?
'Cause 28 in hexadecimal is 40 .... it just looks less to us who are accustomed to decimal.

Mary Hilliard-KruegerSpeaking of prison ink, this young man must have a life sentence, if not I think he may have a heck of a time finding employment after his release.

wasbeemanOh yeah. I'd hire him in an instant. And give him a key to the store, the company truck, and my house. Oh, and the combo to the safe also.
He isn't really as dumb as a whole herd of anvils, he's just mis-understood and you should try, no you are obligated, to seek out his inner beauty. I'm sure his prison boy friend has found it already.

Woodrow SYou might not want to employ him...but you will support him one way or another. Him, and many other jackasses of this generation.

I think that is the way most of us view tattos - as license plates for criminals.
So, how do you view the members of the United States Navy, the vast majority of which sport at least 1 tat? Some of these guys and gals have the highest security clearances available and work on a daily basis with nuclear material. I personally know many SEALs that sport ink. Do they fall under your "license plate for criminals" category.
As to your "Zero professional males have them." I hoist the B.S. flag. I know a lot of "professional" men that have ink. You may not see it, but it is there. I personally have 4 tats. You would never know I have tats if I was standing next to you in a short sleeved shirt, and I hold a Top Secret clearance.
Do I fall under the "license plate for criminal" banner as well? After all, I've only been on active duty for 23 years and have 173 men working under me. You're painting a large portion of America with a very broad brush. That's a dangerous stance to take. Not a good idea to begin down that road. One of these folks with a "license plate for a criminal" may be the guy that pulls your ass out of a wreck on the highway or even teaches your kids and grandkids history in school 5 days a week. He or she may even be the principal of the high school or your pastor.
Let's see how you do on the outside with that tattoo?

impala#03Well I have been enjoying this thread for a while now, thought I should make a small contrubution.
My daughter-in-law has a couple of tats, as does my son. She works for the Dept of Defense. One of the things she does, that she can tell you about, is studying satelite maps of our enemys to keep up with what is happening on the ground.
She has a top secret clearance, as does my son. He works for one of the national labs, I have no idea what he does.
So..... does that make them "license plates for criminals" as stated by SR4759??
Maybe SR4759 ought to shut the fuck up and keep his own asinine and immature statements to his own dumb-assed self!!!!

Down southThat's about the way I look at it too.
22 October 2012, 05:56
SamI generally skip the "off topic" boards but saw "Tattoos/piercings (Down South)" and thought "Ouch".
For a real comment, I'm surprised that so many people who believe in individual freedom give people with tattoos a hard time.

Woodrow SWell, if you own a business and customers are important....how they perceive your employee's is equally important. Freedom to tatoo your body is one thing and should be respected, however freedom to hire you(or not)should get the same respect. Cut and dried.
23 October 2012, 08:44
JOE MACKI've got several tats ala Kurt Russel in "Soldier." They are of the operations I've been involved in during my tenure in the armed forces. Only difference is, they aren't on my cheek. Unless they depict a lewd act, tats of any size don't bother me.

xs headspaceIn my town of Woodstock, NY(Wierdstock?) they have a body art festival every year. One of these years, I'm making a sign for my truck, saying "Body Piercings done while you wait, your choice of caliber". Holy crap, some of the freaks that show up will make you puke!! I guess, they really hate themselves a lot to do that to their body....

IndyI think most tattoos look just like leprosy. I would never hire someone who had tattoos visible in the workplace. To me, they say, "uneducated low-life."

Maybe you should have had more influence over your children so you would not have kids that look like gang bangers. BTW I have a secret security clearance too BFD. My job involved targeting of ballistic missiles. What kind of clearance do you have?
24 January 2013, 21:09
impala#03Who said they look like gang bangers? I did not say the tats were visible. You know, I had plenty of influence when when my son was growing up. He was and is a good man and citizen. He is old enough to serve our country, he is old enough to make his own decisions.
I am excited for you that you you have a secret clearance. The occupation I have does not require a secret clearance.
25 January 2013, 08:22
wasbeemanThe correct question isn't whether he is old enough to serve his country but rather HAS he served his country?

impala#03Not in the military, but working for the national labs.

25 January 2013, 20:32
impala#03That could very well be, but someone has to obtain and interept the sattelite maps to give the PFC on the ground.

Mary Hilliard-KruegerI haven't been on AR in several months and was surprised to see this thread still going.
Tattoo's must be an art form, found this picture from an Art Gallery showing.

I am just trying to figure out what color border I should put on this rug.
