Why are Major League catchers slow runners?
Excluding exhaustion from doing the most physically demanding job in baseball, why are catchers so much slower runners than players in any other position?

An incredibly long time ago, my NCAA soccer team included exercises that appear to stretch the same joints, ligaments, and other connective tissue associated with the prolonged and continual squatting of catchers. Their purpose was not to slow us down - rather to reduce [leg] joint injuries.

Our teams dominated the sport, so injuries were reduced while I doubt speed and quickness were. So what's different?

It's so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and then don't say it. Sam Levinson

two reasons:

1. squat for a couple hours a day.

2. ever heard the term "tools of ignorance..."?
not the most athletic player on the team.
