The Walking Dead on AMC
Anyone elese watching this on AMC...

I've been a fan of zombie movies way before they were mainstream...

I saw "Return of the Living Dead" in 1985 when I was a kid and have probably seen every zombie movie since (even the foreign ones)...

Anyhow...

I've actually been reading the graphic novel for the past couple of years (I'm also secure enough in my manhood to admit I actually read a comic) and zomies aside it's a pretty good story...

The show is following it loosely but it is still character driven and focuses more on how the people are adapting to the survial/apocalyptic scenario that just the zombie gore and horror...

Be interested to see if any other AR members (shooters and hunters) have been watching...

I've been watching it on Netflix, but have only made it through the first few episodes. It's entertaining, but some of the things they do are so ridiculously stupid it's funny. I laughed so hard at the gang banger old folks home episode.

Not to mention there are quite a few firearms errors in the show. I think it's in the first episode when the main character tells a guy that his Glocks safety is on.

Ha Ha..

That must have been the shoot out scene in the very beginning of the episode...

Didn't notice that one...

One thing I like about the show (you'll see it in season 2) is that they acknowledge that being a good shot takes practice...

If you saw Zack Snyders 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead every single character (with some of the characters backgrounds it would be most likely that they've never seen a gun before) were able to hit a running zombie in the head from fifty paces with a handgun every time...

Love the show. Been watching it since it started. Also a long time fan of Zombie films in general, especially any of George A. Romero's.

My wife and I have been watching since the show came on. Like most entertainment you have to overlook the gun gaffs if you want to enjoy.

Didn't see the last twist in the season finale coming. Eeker

We are hooked.

Both my Wife and I are hooked on the show as well as Hell on Wheels that comes on afterwards. In the WD I hope Shane gets eaten alive.

Aside from the firearm related errors, I'd question their choice of armament also. These are slow movers as I see it. An A-4 with red dot and a few thirty or fourty round mags would be ideal for quick head shots. They should show what a ballistic tip or varmint grenade does to a zombie head.

I have a marathon now and again using On Demand. Hasn't been bad enough yet to throw me off my movie-watching snacks.

Im a Romero fan also...

Day of the Dead is probably my favorite...

My wife watches with me also and she hates horror films but she's hooked on the story...

The show follows the graphic novel fairly vlose but has had some splits from the story line to keep it interesting for those viewers who've read it...

Firearm errors in movies are fun to spot...there is an old zombie film (can't remember the title) by the Italian director Lucio Fulci where in a fight scene if you pay atention you can see the leading man is trying to load a revolver by putting the cartridges down the barrel!!!

Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who claim to believe, against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.

Hell, I've always thought zombie films stupid. But a friend of mine recommended "Walking Dead" and I got the first season DVD...... It's pretty good!

Not realistic ..... but an entertaining action zombie drama!

724wd,
Nope, we were just sitting there FD&H believing that she'd show up in the next season. Then she staggered out of the barn and we were both sitting there with our jaws on the floor. Smiler

DaMan,

Gotta set your realism meter pretty low to watch a zombie flick. Kind of like watching either political parties national convention. Wink

Yeah...can't wait for it to start back up in feb...

AMC has some pretty good series going with Breaking Bad and Hell on Wheels also...

Zombie flicks are an acquired taste and of all the horror sub genres there are some unbelievably bad ones that go well below standard B movies…

Trying not to be a hipster a-hole (I like block buster movies too) but some of the B movies fall into the “so bad it’s good” category…If your interested just check out Burial Ground aka The Nights of Terror... This is one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen and it’s not a comedy…

Zombies have become so main-stream that they’ll probably be going out pretty soon, but I figure the Walking Dead will help them to hang around awhile longer…

I knew long ago Romero was making some social commentary in all his films; then I heard him say something very interesting in an interview.

All the good guys and all the bad guys in his movies are human. The zombies are just part of the scenery. His films are really about how people react when civilization goes down the toilet. The Walking Dead seems to be doing a pretty good job of telling such a story.

I've been a fan of Zombie movies since I saw the original Night of the Living Dead at the drive-in in 1970(?).

This is a great series and worthy of being watched by those concerned about a Zombie Apocaplyse, in whatever fashion it will appear.

Geroge did some edgy things...

Having black actors play the leading men in night and dawn...Ken Foree is f*****g awesome...

That didn't happen much in the early 70's...

I got hooked on the erie vibe that Romero was able to put in all his films and later on as an adult realized he was also making a social statement...

My favorite Romero is still Day of the Dead and the zombies probably have less screen time is this one then any other...

The whole being trapped underground and the tension between the characters along with "Dr. Frankenstein" gave that movie a 10 on my creep o meter...

If you liked that one, be prepared for a dissappointment if you see the "remake". Other than using some of the same names has nothing in common with the original. Worth a rental, or even better a watch on TV, but not worth a purchase.

Caleb,

I've seen both remakes of "Day"...

"Contagium" and the one with Ving Rahmes and the chick from "American Beauty"...

I agree both are awful...

Not even in the "so bad it's good" category just "so bad it's bad"...

Haven't seen Contagium, and from what I found on Wikipedia I doubt I will unless it's on TV.

Did notice that Greg Nicotero played one of the Soldiers in Romero's Day of the Dead; he's now make-up artist for The Walking Dead.
