Ah so, 1:24", not 1:36", but good to be faster than 1:42", if you want to use the Lee 500-grainer. tu2
I have both your moulds also.
Lyman 515141 "450-grainer" is good in a 1:42" but the heavier Lee keyholed with my antique M1866 Trapdoor.
My bore is no doubt bigger than .500, however,
but my grooves may be .515.
Some have encountered Trapdoor grooves from .508 to .518.

OOh, that .40-90 is one of the most intriguing of the old Sharps cartridges.

There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.

Very cool. tu2

Two questions:

1. Is your 40-90 Sharps the Straight 3-1/4", or is it the Bottle Necked 2-5/8" version?

2. What does it mean, "Don't take the chip!"?

Shiloh uses a 3-1/4"405 Winchester brass for the 4090 straight .bottle necks have a problem making a carbon ring in barrel when fired , That is why I got the straight.

OK, your tagline was funnier before I knew you were talking about that kind of chip, old news.
I will certainly not take that kind of chip, thank you.
I was hoping it was about buffalo chips ...

Shot a match with Dan Zimmerman sunday who shoots one of his own 40-65 hepburns. He said his hepburns now start at $3700. He finished with a 27 and match was won by a 28.

Idaho Sharpshooter
the good old days...

About 1980 I traded a like new McClellan and $50 to a civil war reenactor for a Gove lever conversion in 50-70.
