Yes and no. They still make knives themselves, I think in 440C stainless. (I don't mind if someone knows otherwise). They have also introduced a line of outsourced knives, I'm not sure of their quality. Apparently their general quality isn't as good since 1991. The stainless until then was quite good, I have a folding clip point knife which has been a reliable hunting knife for 21 years now. It has no noticeable wear, but has skinned and dressed hundred of rabbits, possums and quite a few bigger beasts.
The best way is to get an older knife, and look for the Pumaster steel. It is superb. I recently bought a White Hunter made in 1969, it holds a fantastic edge, and is a great all rounder with a lot of history. My third Puma is a fishing knife, with a built in priest. These three knives handle all my hunting and fishing, and I pray I don't lose any! I don't think you'd regret buying a classic, but I would be careful with current production.
