Skinning Knives
I'm looking for a good skinning knife. I would be interested in everyone's opinion.

I will be using it on whitetails and larger ...

The mania for giving the Government power to meddle with the private affairs of cities or citizens is likely to cause endless trouble, through the rivaly of schools and creeds that are anxious to obtain official recognition, and there is great danger that our people will lose our independence of thought and action which is the cause of much of our greatness, and sink into the helplessness of the Frenchman or German who expects his government to feed him when hungry, clothe him when naked, to prescribe when his child may be born and when he may die, and, in fine, to regulate every act of humanity from the cradle to the tomb, including the manner in which he may seek future admission to paradise.

Check out Knives of Alaska, I like the light hunter and the bear cub combo. Works great for everything.

The only thing wiyh Knives of Alaska is that they are high carbon steel, not stainless.

They hold a better edge, but oil them along with your gun.

There may be some knives nearly as good but none better than:

http://www.agrussell.com/knives/by_maker/a_through_d/do...kon_pro_skinner.html

Dozier has several different skinners available through AG Russel you might check them out or here is his own website:

If you never want to have to buy another go with any of the Dozier models.

I was lucky enough to recieve one as a gift about two years ago. Seriously, I would not take $1,000.00 for it today.

Some things are just facts in this life - Filson is the best that money can buy for hunting clothing, a classic action model 70 is the best CRF rifle made, and God loves Bob Dozier. IMHO.

Thanks BWN,

They are beautiful knives.

I was hoping the members would make this easier, but you guys have only reminded me that you can't have too much gear. Smiler

There is a member on here that makes knives. His name is Mike Starling. I think it is mstarling or mkstarling.com He has a website and i have met him personally and he has been in my home looking at some hog trophies I have. I like his knives very much, still waiting to skin something but are well built and solid; just like a custom knife should be.

Keep yer powder dry and yer knife sharp.

Before you make up your mind, check out Dunn's knives as well. they are super. I think Cabela's still carries them. You need two knives. A Reguar skinner and a small caper if you are going to skin out the head for a mount.

If you want a knife just for skinning use what the "Pros" use. You can buy a Forschner skinning knife at any butcher supply store and the price is quite reasonable. Mine is a model 40535

I have several friends that thave the Ubejane, by Reeves, and they swear by it. It is probably the best out there. I see Kabar has a similar knife called the Warthog and may give it a go. It is much less money that the Ubejane.

Good knives at a good price, and thanks to everyone for all the advice. I was able to do some research and made good deals for both.
