I've been somewhat reluctant posting too much info about myself ( Retired LEO ) .. But, I'm retired & not Running for any " Political Office " ( PERRO Danger )

Hey everyone,

Feeling a little better today & started playing with my " Knife Sharpener ".

I cant' get the hang of free-hand sharpening a knife on any stones. I recently saw a review on " U - Tube ", of the " KME Sharpener " ( Dean O ) .. and bought one.

I can now put a razors edge.. on most of my Knives / Arrow Broadheads , that will fit within the clamps.

I picked the " Diamond Stones Kit " , along with a few extra ones : Ex - course Diamond & extra fine white honing stone.

I also ordered a few leather strops, cut specifically to fit the " KME Sharpener ".

I've already used it on all of my other knives, & I had some difficulties, with larger thick blade knives.

My solution,..use an " Adjustable Height , Pistol Rest ", to keep the blade balanced, & stable.

The " M-18 & Yuma " were already pretty sharp. So, I decided to use the Strop & Compound , to Polish the Edge.

I used a Honing stone & Black Marker, to find & adjust for the correct edge angle, & then used the Strop / Compounds for a Polish.


The curved edge on the " M- 18 " , posed another issue to overcome. My " KME Sharpener " , came with a " Round Diamond Rod ", for use with serrated Blades.
It will work, to keep that portion of the blade sharp.

The " Polish " was most noticeable on the " M-18 Blade ".

Those are some very nice looking and useable knives Papi.

And I certainly do wonder if anywhere near the number of people who are into knives have the ability to sharpen them and wind up with something remotely better than what they started to sharpen. My dad used to make me free hand sharpen all of our knives when I was a teenager, and I got where I could get them shaving sharp fairly easily. My services were always in use during down time at the hunting camp.

I decided to clean up the edge on my “ Two Handed Katana/ Machete “, from Cold Steel.

The factory edge looked like it was made with a very rough grinding stone / sanding belt.

One side of the edge had a very noticeable rolled over bur , which felt like the thickness of my fingernail.

I re-sharpened the entire edge on both sides, & honed it with the Strop & compound.

It came out pretty nice ..!

Love those knives. Please educate me on the scalloped sections purpose in the knife in the first photo.

I purchased the “ M-18 “, after doing a bit of online research & looking at several very well known “ Large Blade Knives “. I wanted a multi Purpose knife, and the “ M-18 “ appeared to have lots to offer, with many different cutting edges.. IMHO.

I.E.:
Wide Semi-Flat Blade Tip: Woodworking Slick / Chisel.
Flat front front Blade portion: Utility Camp Cutting Blade, Wood Chopping, Wood Shaping & Wood Carving Blade.
Flat front Blade portion: Woodworking Draw Knife.
Curved Inner Blade Portion: Woodworking Draw Knife.
