Hibben Elmer Keith knife
Anyone have one? I have the cheap Japanese version that Guns and Ammo sent out in the 1970s.

Are they junk?

What about the design?

I have one that was a promotional giveaway if you subscribed to Guns and Ammo. Been 40 years since I looked at it, back in the storage box someplace. If you are interested I will dig it out and send pics.

IIRC I looked at one of the originals at the Blade Show some years back.
3/8's stock and chisel ground. Pretty hefty knife. Not my cup of tea.

A sharp heavy knife will cut like nothing else. A dull heavy knife will cut, where a dull light knife will not.

As much as I admire Elmer, his small man disease probably contributed to the size of his knives.

To each his own. Like many, somewhere I've got one of the G&A knives. It is a large clunky design, better suited for combat and survival than hunting use IMO. But if you like it, that's all that matters, so go for it. There are quite a few of these around by custom makers if Lost Okie can't find the time.

Gato,

I have a Columbia River Folder that is very similar to these Keith knives, and until I lost it, it was my favorite knife in the world.

Well, why don't you buy another one?

They don't make it anymore. I don't even have an idea of what model it was. I have spent hours on ebay trying to figure it out and the CRKT websites.

No idea!

Patience, grasshopper. Smiler

Why don't you call CRKT and ask them?

They don't have any. They were nice about it and spent about 30 minutes on the phone talking to me.

Found it! I found one on Ebay, but I keep looking for more.

It is Puukkoesque in that it short, sharp and nice to handle inside an animal.

Great. Glad you found one in time before the great exodus. Almost anything will surface on ebay with time.

WYo: That is a very practical design. I can see why you like that blade shape.

The blade is about 3.5 inches long. Perfect.

Kind of a fatty to carry in your pants, but a nice knife for the money.

MK1-03K It is a Greg Lightfoot design. The one on Ebay right now is so worn down to nothing, I wouldn't buy it.
