LDHunterARGH!!!! A danged lizard broke my Kershaw Roughneck!!!
I have a Kershaw 1010 Roughneck fixed blade hunting knife.
Here's a good picture of oneI'm remodeling my upstairs hunting/hobby and reloading room and have hired a carpenter to help me. We were using my Kershaw to cut insulation and I needed to set it down. It's razor sharp so I was afraid to just leave it on the floor sooo.....
I got the "bright idea" to throw it and stick in a 2x6 that's serving as a door frame. As I turned to aim I spotted a small lizard on the frame and on impulse reared back and threw it at him.

The knife narrowly missed him and stuck pretty deeply in the wood.

We both laughed and the lizard jumped about 3 feet to the floor and ran like someone had turpentined his tail.

The huge disappointment came when I went to retrieve the knife later to cut some more insulation. I pulled it out of the 2x6 and Lo and Behold the tip was broken off.

I was/am FURIOUS!!! I'm sure it's my fault and the knife wasn't designed for some damn redneck (yours truly) to throw it at lizards but it's the first knife I've ever broken and I'm sorely disappointed.... ARGH!!!!!!!

I only paid $20 for it used, but had grown quite fond of it and found it very useful. I often used it for many general purpose tasks and spent a LOT of time getting a 20 degree edge on it that was nearly perfect and razor sharp.

Any idea whether or not Kershaw will warranty the knife and what their contact info is?

$ 20 used ? Buy a new one , don't be cheap. At that price it isn't worth fixing . And stay away from those tough lizards they might throw the knife back at you !!

CollinsYep, even on the pic you posted it was <$35 new.
I'd make due with what you've got as well. shape the point like a tanto and then it might survive being thown about, maybe even get a bigget lizzard!

Boss KongoniPut it to the bench grinder and put a new tip on it and be done with it.
Go slow and don't over heat the blade.

calgarychef1About 15 years ago our security guard at the hotel I wa working in showed me his knife--just like yours with the tip broken off. He had used it to pry apart steaks. I put it on the honing stone and reshaped the blade for him- it looked great and probably is still looking great, especially now that he has learned his lesson!!

LDHunterOK... Problem solved... I picked up another one on ebay for a song and will reshape the blade on the old one for a "camp knife".
I know it's a cheap knife with a Japanese blade but for a general purpose hunting knife it has it's uses and I don't hesitate to use it for hacking brush etc...
Now to convince myself to get one of the Buck S30V Vanguard knives on Cabelas before they run out of them... It should be a GREAT field dressing knife.. <grin>

LDHunterDoug,
I'm pretty happy with the size, handle, and blade shape of the Roughneck.
What does Cold Steel make that's comparable?
One never has enough knives eh?

Since you are using it as a construction tool anyway just grind the tip flat and add a bit of taper on both sides and you will also have a screwdriver for the little jobs.
