The 7mm Rem. Mag. at 3K with a 175 grain Partition is a great killer.
I have seen this load work on a variety of big game with stellar performance.

I have used IMR 7828 and RL-22 to reach 3K the load above works for me too and 66.5 grains of Rl-22 will get you there.

Good luck hunting.

Well I see a whole bunch of loads and no targets. How accurate are these loads? MOA or minute of deer?
Peter.

Gee Peter, how well can you shoot.

What works in my gun might not work so well in yours. I have used the RL-22 load in 5 different rifles, with no complaints. MOA or less. I have used the IMR 7828 load in just my rifle.
I only have notes for this, no saved targets for the 7mm.
Happy hunting.

Peter, the AA8700 load I posted above cloverleafs at 100. I never took it to 200, as here in TX most shots are 100 or less. And I now have a 35 Whelen, so the 7RM won't be going to the mountains...

Gents, thanks. That is what I am looking for. I have been doing some load development for my 7mm RM Blaser barrel. It is not as easy to develop loads for as the 300WM. I think my last attempt was with Berger VLD's but I have to go back and check. 300 yard groups were OK but nothing to write home about (or even take pictures of the target!). I actually have some AA8700!
Peter.

Peter, my 7mm RM barrel for my R93 loves the Federal Premium load with the 160gr Accubond...about 3/8th". I've never reloaded for that barrel.

I have a Model 700 7 rem mag from the early 70s, accubond 160s and 140 Barnes ttsx over retumbo, Hornady brass and CCI large mag primers.

The Barnes did give me some issues at first, but once I back them futher off the rifling the problem was solved
As long as i do my part this gun will clover leaf every time

Geez guys, where do you find your loads? According to my book (old Lyman) max of IMR4350 is 61 grains with the 160 gr. bullet. According to Hodgdon reloading tables max of H1000 is 66 grs with the 160 gr. bullet. AA doesn't even show a load for AA8700! Alliant shows a load of 61 grs. RL22 with the 175.I went back and looked at old targets. I had several really good 3 shot groups at 100 but when I shot a 5 shot group, not so wonderful. I really don't need a max. load, just the most accurate! Still, I loaded up some 160 Accubonds with IMR 4350 so we will see what they do!
Peter.
Post modified. I just found in my 1997 AA reloading book a max load for a 160 gr. bullet of 79grs. AA8700!

Here's some from my 1967 Lyman manual

All the loads I used for retumbo came from Hodgons Annual Mag. I was loading the 160 accubonds from 65 gr(min) up to 69 gr. I have no pressure signs and the printed max load was 69.5g. I worked these loads and found the 67.5g to 69 worked the best in my particular rifle.

These bullets shoot great but i found better peformance from the barnes at the shorter ranges. Hope this helps
Matt

Gentlemen, thanks for the replies. Baldhunter your Lyman looks very much like mine, 45th Edition. I like the manual but it does not have the newer powders eg. AA in it.
Season, I do not have Retumbo (just about the only one I don't have!) so I am trying the ones I have first. As I mentioned, 3 shot groups were great but opened up with 5 shots, and, nothing to write home about at 300 yards. If I can find a good load for a 5 shot group at 100 yards i think I will be set. Heading to the range!
Peter

My rifle really likes:

60.5 grains of RL-22
160 Grain Accubond
Federal 210 primer
Remington cases.

Loaded to an OAL of 3.321 inches it will group less than minute of angle all day long. Accurate and the Accubond works well on game.

Peter
Thanks Flags. That number (60.5) is a lot more reasonable than 66grs. at least compared with the book max (61 grs. for the 175 gr. NP). I will give it a shot (literally)!
Peter.

the 7mm mag differs more than any caliber i know of. mine with 60.5 rll 22 with 160 grain bullet does not get above 2650fps. I look at the books and panic but 68.5 rl-22 with 160's and i still am not up to 3000. I have no pressure signs so i am going back to several powders and just going up until i see pressure. Not sure what else to try

I have 2 7mm Mags in one I have add 3grs of
powder to get the same speed as the other one.
I have had 160gr factory shells where the
velocity was as low as 2850fps. If I wanted that speed I would have bought a 7mm-08.

RL-22 will give up 3000+ FPS with 175 grain Partitions out of a 24" barreled Sako AV. But I like 67 grains of H-4831 & 160 grain Partitions. It chronos @ better that 3100 FPS. It will kill massive bull elk very dead.

RL-22 pushing 150 grain Partitions will give up 3000 FPS out of a 22" barreled .270 Win. It'll kill just as dead as 160 grainers out of a 7MM Rem Mag. I'll go with a lighter weight .270 Win from here on out. Heavy anything ain't fun at Rocky Mountain altitude.

I never cared for the 7 mag until I went to IMR-7828 and the 175 gr. Nosler partition, at least on elk..The 175 gr. Nosler at 3000 plus FPS is death and distruction on elk, about the perfect elk round until you get to the .338 Win. IMO.

I40 TTSX hand loads are really accurate in my 7mm Rem Mag also. I bought a box 150 TTSX and have been trying to work up a load but so far the 140's are more accurate.
