7MM info?

Getting back into the reloading thing after a few years and starting over.

Reloading for an older Savage safe-queen, 110 in 7MM that is fairly crisp (like new).

I hunt deer, pronghorn and elk have used 140GR Nosler BT's in the past and eat well, but there sure has been a lot of new manufactures since.

Been reading the new info and Hodgdon's H1000 seems a good place to start, but maybe there is something better?

I have no idea what primer to use anymore, if I recall, there were only 2 large rifle magnum primers to choose from before?

My basic question is what should I be looking for as things become a little more available?

My hope is to develop a load that will just be my 'go-to' load for everything, not hoping for something real hot, but consistency and something that will be available if things get harder to find again?

I to will use Win brass.

IMR is published in the top few of a lot of lists as near optimal for 7Rem Mags.

Now I understand that published data is more of a starting point, i read that 61Grains of IMR-7828 is listed at 2700FPS @ 59,000PSI .

Did 7828 give good indications of pressure increase as you approached 66 Grains?

IMR 7828 is now definitely on my list, as 69 Grains under a 140G bullet, as published, will give the same starting pressure as 61 Grains under your 175G bullet.

Not a prairie scorcher but is accurate in my A-Bolt II.

I use CCI 250 primers, Win Brass
RL 22 w 140gr Accubonds for Deer and Antelope

Reading charge data on Retumbo shows a trend, not that anyone would start at max, but it seems about the best there is for heavy bullets, as the compressed powder loads are at the top on the speed charts, with some of the lowest pressures!

Dose RL-22 fill the case near max for 140GR bullets?
There site states that 66GR will push a 140GR bullet @ 3074FPS. From the hip my guess is that is not showing a lot of signs of excessive pressure yet?

I have had very good luck with 160 Gr Barnes TSX over 63 grs of Rl-22 in my 7mm mag...

Very accurate mid velocity load that will handle anything you have listed.

I use CCI mag primers.

My rifle shoots the 140 gr TSX over 66gr of Rl-22 to almost the same POI as the 160's...I prefer the slightly heavier slug.

I had no signs of high pressure when I worked up this load. I have tried it in three different 7mm Mags all with great results. I believe I could even go a couple grains higher however, the group was good so I left well enough alone. With that said you're rifle may not care for this load, work up slowly and best of luck.
