If I could have only 1 powder for the various 280 based wildcats (AI, Gibbs,JRS, PDK etc)it would be RL22

As usual just my $.02

My latest 7mm is a WSM in a Kimber Montana. I am loading 140gr Berger VLD's over H4350 and the book velocity is 3100 fps.

On it's last range check it put 2 shots into one inch at 200 yds with a 5-10 mph breeze.

It weighs 7# 4oz with a 3-9 Conquest.

What chamber is your 280AI, the Ackley or Nosler?

A 24" Featherweight barrel! Now that's interesting.

Get the 'power' or optic that your eye likes instead of what someone else says.

When we go to the doctor they ask us what lens we like!

Do that with your optics.

About a month and a half ago I got my first 280 Ackley (SAAMI) in a H.S. Precision SPL. I'm experimenting with the limited bullets available. This gun shoots.

Using 54.8 gr Hybrid V 100 and 145 gr LRX bullets it shoots 5 shot groups into less than a half inch. Using 54.1 grains of IMR 7828 and LRX 168 gars, it shoots 5 shot groups into slightly larger than half inch groups. Naturally I can't find any more of those bullets but I have the recipes. I'm experimenting with berger VLD 168s now and I think they will be in the same ballpark when I get around to finishing my testing next spring after hunting season. Until then this darling of a rifle is going back into the safe. Hope by then bullets are plentiful again.

63.5 gr VV165, CCI BR2, and a 140 Nosler Accubond has shot well in a variety of 280 AI's, not sure why but it tends to shoot universally well in most 280 AI's

Mine is a Sako L61R that I made up in 1998 with a douglas barrel.

The best load is 160 gr Nosler accubond and 59.5 gr of VV N560 - a Nosler manual load. This gives me just short of 3000 fps in a 24" barrel and very accurate.

I developed various accurate & fast loads within spec using 150 gr Rem PSPCL, Speer 145 BT, 150 gr Barnes TSX etc.

I got great results with Re19 & VV N 160 for the 150 gr bullets.

I had poor results with Re22 & AR 2213 SC (H4831SC)

My favorite 280 AI load is 60.0 gr SuperFormance pushing a 140 gr TTSX chronographed at 3057 fps. Very accurate. 60.5 gr was also v. accurate.
