30-378 Weatherby, Need a Good Load
I have a buddy that is having a terrible time getting and accurate Bullet/Load combo tho shoot in his 30-378. He tells me the only thing he has found so far that shoots good groups is Weatherby factory and the Cost is about to kill him. Any accurate load bullet combo's will be greatly appreciated. [Big Grin]

HANDLOADER,
I'm loading the .30-378 for a friend. In his rifle, 106.0 grains H-1000, Fed #215M and the 180 grain Barnes XBT bullet gives excellent results. This load is at the top of the book and should be worked up to. After elk season we are going to do some testing with the Nosler 180 grain Partition. I hope that this is of some help. Good luck. Thanks BigBob, I appreciate the Information. Have you tried any 165 grainers as of yet. Do you know what your FPS on the load?
Thank's a Million

HANDLOADER,
Haven't worked with 165s yet. I keep a book on everything I load, Jesse, the rifle owner has it though. As far as I can recall, velocities were 3333 fps. If you a Hodgdon manual, don't trust the loads listed for the 180 grain bullet and H-1000. The manual has 111 grains listed as max. In Jesse's rifle that load was way too hot to even shoot. The 106.0 grain load group was less then an inch. 106.5 grain group started to open up to 1 1/2" and got worse. Norma brass is softer than American brass and indicates higher pressures than are actually present. Still, at 107.5 the cases started to extrude brass into the ejector hole and shear it off causing the bright circle on the face of the cases. Jesse has a Weatherby mark V and I believe it has a 26" barrel. This would cause high pressures earlier than with a 24" barrel. However, I've found a few anomalies in the manual. Such as 62.5 grains of H-4350 with 150 grain bullets in the .30-06. I hope that this helps. Let me know how it works out for you. Good luck. [Smile]
