I just love this old thing.
Creeping up on 100 years now.
With bullets from 110 grains to 220 grains, there's lots and lots of fun to be had in NA.

Let's see those pet loads, light or heavy, slow or fast. I'm particularly interested in very light and very heavy bullets; stuff you don't see alot of in the manuals.

So far, I have a 165 grains of Grand Slam doing over 2900 fps in front of 62 grains of RL22.
This is for sure a hot load, but within safe for me and mine. I definitely would work up to anywhere near 60 grains.
And I have on my bench 11 fresh ones with 200-grainers on top of 55-60grains of the same RL22 waiting for the weekend....

i use the 180 gn nosler partition so most of my load development has been around this proj just recentley i got loads pressure tested from 54-61 gns of H4350 s/c behind the 180 nosler
my own load is 60 gns of H 4350 S/C behind the 180 GN NOSLER for a mv of 2920 fps
165 gn nosler partition 62 gn of H4350 for a m.v of 3030
my 200 gn load is 59 gn of R22 behind a 200 gn nosler partition for a velocity of 2700 fps
i also use the federal h.e ammo loaded with the 180 gn nosler for a velocity of 2950 fps
i also have pulled some of these cartriges apart and used the H.ENERGY powder behind the 200 gn nosler and am getting 2800 fps

I played with RL19 & 165gr, but was having trouble getting anywhere near 2900fps.

165 gr. NBT 57 gr. IMR 4350=2850 fps.
It's the only load I use for deer, I switch to Partition for heavier stuff, the two different bullets shoot about a 1 1/2" group when I alternate bullets and shoot for group, my gun loves them!

The Hodgon manual lists 59 gr H4350 as max with 165 gr pill. What kind of pressure you getting?

VV N-560 61.3/Hornady 180 SST/CCI200/Federal case.M-700 under MOA,M-70 just over MOA,five shot groups,2740f/s both.

The hornady sst in 165 gr is all I shoot in my rem mtn rifle anymore,with 57.5 IMR 4350,2860 fps.
when I was shooting the 150 gr I used 52.5 grs of IMR 4064,or RE-15,53.6 grs
with the 150 sst or the Hornady 150 boat tail,and the Rem.corlock.
Have a 742 ino6 and it don't like anything except Imr 4064,52.5 grs and the Hornady 150 boat tail.

Maybe one day y'all will see the light and get a real gun chambered in .308 Winchester. Sorry but I could not resist.

125gr Sierra and IMR 4320, 150gr Hornady Spire Point and IMR 4064, 165gr Hornady SST and Reloader 19, 180gr Speer Spitzer and Reloader 22, Hornady Light Magnum with 180gr bullet (factory ammo).
My powder charges are at or near maximum from various loading manuals, generally MY rifle gets more accurate with warm handloads. The bullets are seated just off the lands.

The Powder of choice for the 30-06 that I have used over the years is IMR 4350 and RL 19, with bullets 150 to 220 grains in bolt actions or single shots/pumps.

heres one ilike very well. 110 gr v-max with 58 gr of reloader 15. shoots very well and moves at 3450 fps

OK, Favorite loads:

152gr. ball, 48gr/748 or 172gr. AP, 45gr/748

But you wanted a slow one: 7gr/700-X (use a small tuft of dacron), with any bullet weight up to 180gr. (almost no noise), approx. 1000 fps, good for 100yds.

TIP; sight in your rifle for your favorite high power load, then load up some slow ones and vary the bullet weight until your impact is dead on at 100 yds (without changing scope). That way you have a VERY flexable rifle. OG

For 150gr loads I like 4064, for 165, and 180gr loads H-414.

With 180 Grain Nosler Partitions I have settled on 57.0 grains of IMR 4350 many years ago. Not particually flashy, just gets the job done very well.
Lately I've been playing a bit with the Barnes XLC bullets, and have had to add a grain or two to the load to maintain good velocity. Barnes claims 59.0 grains is max with this bullet. This load seems very promising.

Here's my load for bushveld (brush) hunting in South Africa:

Bullet: Woodleigh 220gr Round Nose
Powder: 52.0 grs IMR-4350
Cases: W-W
COL: 3.18" (my rifle has short throat)
Primer: Winchester WLR primer
Chronographed average muzzle velocity for 10 shots: 2460 fps
Rifle: Ruger M77 MkII, 22" barrel

I use a 150 yard zero and it shoots plenty flat enough for shots out to 200 yards or so.

For pure velocity use H414 in the o6...

I use a 180gr Partition with 60.0gr of RL22 and WLR primers to get 2850 out of my '06. Works great for elk.

M-1 Garand and 03! My favorites and I shoot lots of BL-c2 in mine with 150 grain hornadys.

My load is I guess rather mundane. I load Sierra Game Kings over 55.0 gr of IMR-4350. It isn't max it isn't real fast but it works and I can substitute a Nosler Partition and get the Same Point of Impact at 100 yds. Sean

Hornady 150 Gr. flat base, 59.0 Gr IMR 4350, Federal 210 Match primer. Has shot less than 1" consistantly out of 2 different 30/06's. Chrono's 2775 out of my most recent M-70. Only went 2600 or so out of my old M-700- Didn't seem to matter to about 10 deer, though. Not nearly a max load in my M-70. I don't plan on changing a thing. I did try RE-19 several years ago but it seemed to have a lot more recoil. That was before I got a chronograph so it may have had more velocity. I plan on trying this powder again- only to compare velocities.

rem brass neck sized filled with 57.0 grs of imr 4831 set off by a CCI 200 primer topped off with a hornady 220rn.

After a fifteen year absence in my gun case, the 06' is back... RP brass, Fed 210M primers, 58 gr's H4350 under Hornady 180's at 2,755 fps... sub 3/4" groups... next step, 165 XLC's.

Lets hear it for all the guys who keep the old 220 grain Round Nose alive!!!

any powder that will give 2400 fps, zeroed 3.5 inches high at 100 yds will give you minute of whitetail at 250.

The last buck I shot with this load was across a Wisconsin swamp at 225 yrds. Saw thru a small clearing as I was watching his path on a trail on the opposite side of the swamp. Had a Leupold 2 x7 shotgun scope on the rifle, so quick target acquisition.

When I got to the carcus the deer only had a small dime size hole in his right side, flipped him over and on the left side he only had a small exit hole the same dime size. Laying on the ground was a patch of blood the size of your palm and a few kernals of corn.

When I gutted him, even tho he only had a dime size hole for entrance and exit wounds, his lungs, liver and esophagus looked like they had been stirred with a chainsaw.

He dropped straight down at the shot. Field clean weight was right at 200 lbs.

Round Noses still work! Always have and always will!!!
