Need some helo I have a bar Semi 30-06 but never loaded any shells for it. Always shot factory. Was wondering if there are any special techniques for loading a semi ? I've always been afraid I would get the wrong powder or too high vel and blow it up. I saw a load that gave 53/4064/ for 2950 with a 150 bullet. that would be great for my deer hunting.

I wouldn't start with the Small Base Dies unless your rifle actually requires their use.

Try a regular Full Length Sizer first under controlled (range) conditions to see if everything functions O.K.

Small Base Dies really over work your brass, are hard on your Bench, the Press, not to mention your arm.

I load for three fellows who have .30/06 Sprg. BAR's & all function perfectly with Full Length Sizing Dies.

I'd reco two additional pieces of equipment; neither very expensive.

A Lee Case Length Gauge - dunno why they call them that since they are actualy a hand-held case trimmer. Works great with an electric screwdriver to speed things along. Trim the cases 'cause a Lee Factroy Crimp Die is my second suggestion.

All three of my Buddies get 180 gr. Hornady Round Noses, 55.0 grs. of H-4350, in R-P Brass, a WLR Primer and the whole mess is crimped into the bullet's cannelure.

All three rifles shoot under an inch with this load.

HL, your 4064 load (I load 51 grains) will do famously well, if it's not too hot for your particular rifle.

Some autos like the M1 Garand are sensitive to pressure curves of various powders but most of the more modern, sporting rifles do fine with any safe load.

Follow the reloading manuals for 150 grain bullets and use 4895 or 4064.

I would recommend a bullet that has a cannelure.
Keep your brass trimmed to a uniform length and crimp it with a Lee factory crimp die. This will keep the bullets from telescoping into the case when the bolt slams the rounds into the barrel.

IMR 4064, the 4895's, and Reloder 15 are all very good powders for a 30:06 with 150 grain bullets. All will work well in a semi-auto, a bolt, etc. Good luck.
