338-06 Loads
Anyone care to share their favorite load for 200gr and 210gr bullets in 338-06??

I've been experimenting with RL 15 and
IMR 4320, having decent results. Looking for that ever elusiove perfect load. Smiler

I like 55GR of RL 15 in my rifle Accubonds and Northfork 200gr under 1". The 210 gr TSX and Partition bullets are doing great with H4350 somewhere above 60 gr. Hope this helps I am still playing with mine Big Game is also a good powder in the 210 and Varget with 200's

I have a hell of a finicky one, Big Game and and the 210 TSX fixed mine, velocity is 2800 as well.

jstevens, mind sharing your Big Game charge? I have settled on 55.6 grains of VV N-140 for right at 2775 fps with 210 NP. I have a bunch of BG sitting around and it seems to be of a perfect burn rate for the 338-06. Thanks in advance

I've been very happy with 55gr of IMR4064 and a 200gr Speer Hot-Cor. It gives me sub MOA groups all day long.

The load is 62 gr of Big Game with a 210 TSX in Rem .35 Whelen brass necked down. There isn't a lot of data around for this combo, so work it up, but it isn't a hot load in mine. I usually start the TSX's at .050 from the rifling and normally this will work.

The 62 gr of BG load is over max in my rifle. I went to 61 gr and STOPPED. Let your rifle tell you what is Max. Just my experience.

That is exactly why every load must be worked up in your rifle, not checked on a computer program or your buddy's rifle.

Howdy

Over the last 4 months, I've been working with two 338-06's. One 03A3 rebore and one with a Pac Nor SS barrel on a M70 action-both 24 inch barrels.

I've tried IMR 4350, IMR4320, IMR4064, RL15 and H4895. Hornady, Nosler, Speer, Old Winchester 250 Silvertips, Sierra, Barnes TSX have all been shot and chronographed - bullet weights from 185TSX to 270 Speer.

In both rifles best velocity and accuracy has been with IMR4064. 2750fps with 200 and 210 bullets with easy extraction, good primer appearance and tight pockets after at least 5 reloads - used Win 30-06 brass necked up using Redding dies. 55-57 grains of IMR4064 with 210 Partition gives excellent accuracy.

Many of the loads I tried came from this web site which is very good - but as always start low and work up in your rifle.
