Does anyone have any proven loads for either of these two rounds with 165 grain bullets? Thanks in advance.

Can't recommend a bullet that light for deer. Better to go with a 180 Partition at about 3000 fps.

308 Norma Mag
CC! Mag Rifle Primers
Norma Cases
IMR 4350 ... 69 grains
Velocity 3000 fps +- 20 fps

Most 308 Norma Mags are custom rifles ... Leade varies considerably, so start mild and work up. Mine is a Custom Springfield ... groups this load at 1 MOA (consistently for the last 25 years).

Load works well on deer ... relatively little bomb damage on impact, good penetration.

Point taken.

"Varmit" load:

168 gr Sierra HPBT Match
CCI Large Rifle Mag Primer
76.0 gr H4831
308 Norma Mag Norma Re cases

~3100 fps
Extremely accurate ( 1/2 MOA)
Projectile detonation on impact is common less than 200 yards

Same warnings about sarting lower apply.

Happy now?

Contact J&D Components (Shotgun News) Buy yourself some 22cal./.30cal. sabots. Load your .308 with a good 60gr bullet and 50gr of AA223. May I suggest Hornady 60gr. These may be kinda light for your work, but then again you didn't state....much!

By the way if you think AA223 is too fast settle on a med. burning powder for the sabots. J & D has loading info. Check it out.

I took my 30-338 to Botswana this year. It accounted for 03 Gemsbok on down to 01 Steenbok, with everything in between. My load is 165 grain Nosler Partition, 70.5 grains of IMR-4831, Winchester magnum primer in a Remington 338 Winchester magnum case. This has been chronographed @ 3223 fps with one-half inch groups @ 100 yards.

With 165gr BT 71.5gr of H 4831 210Match. 3000fps
With 180gr BT or Partition; 71.5gr of H 4831 210 M, for about 2950. The 180 Partition load is a go anywhere, do anything load. Ku-dude

I put some 165 partitions together in mine probably 15 years ago. Can't remember just how well they shot but don't recall them being bad. Loaded them with 68 grains IMR 4350 with rem. 9 1/2 primers and rem. brass. My notes show that they went 3205 fps. The load that I have always hunted with in it is 200 gr. partitions with 71 gr. H-4831, fed. 215 primer and win. brass. They averaged 3011 fps over the chronograph. Think it will take anything I'll ever want to hunt. John.

I would not hesitate to hunt plainsgame with a 165 gr. Nosler in any of the 300's, and I have used them in the 30-338 and 300 Win Mag. but time has convinced me the 200 gr. Nosler in any 300 is the creame de creame for big game...from Duiker on up to whatever one wants to use it on. My client Bob Inman has managed to knock over everything Africa has to offer with his 300 H&H and 200 and 220 gr. Woodleighs (solid and softs) and Noslers..The 220 gr. Woodleigh or Nosler are a couple of real hammers on big and small stuff.
