W296 and the 357 max
Can anyone help me with published data on W296 for cast bullets in the 357 max rifle.
I can't seem to find cast data for that powder in the max.

Vance,

I use the jacketed bullet data by starting 10% low and working up.

Also see the data on Dan Wesson's .357 Max Data page.

I used to shoot 18.5 grains of W296 behind a gas-check slug (200 grain flat-point). Accuracy was pretty good, though I've always had better luck with H4227 in the Max.

Lee,

Me, too! I use 17.5 gr. of H4227 under a 205 gr. Leadheads FPGC in the Max (and small rifle primers ). Not as fast as it might be, but I do get over 1600 fps and it is accurate.

Hobie....I'll have to try the Leadheads bullet (I'm actually placing an order today with them for 500 S&W slugs). Like yourself, small rifle primers have always given me the best results in the Max.
