Commercial cartridges are very rarely loaded with the powders that are available to reloaders. They usually produce their own blends in order to eliminate lot variations and to produce the "same" cartidge over and over again.

Therefore it is not really worthwile trying to figure out which powder a certain factory round is loaded with.

Ah! Someone else trying to reverse engineer the great Federal GM308M.

I think it's a canister grade not available to reloaders.

I thought maybe IMR 4064. Nope!

One of the few factory loads I can't 'best' by reloading. Mad

This is correct. It is dangerous to assume that any powder in a factory load is a canister powder that reloaders can buy, regardless of what it may LOOK LIKE!!

Oh to the contrary !. I will disagree to make this point .

All munitions manufactures use a " Canister " type powder . How ever it's in Bulk form as well as having slightly different properties . This may or may not lead to any better ballistics what so ever !.

These properties are what's priorities , along with tracer (inert elements ) which are required by Federal law .

For identification proposes , each manufacture has to register those properties with the Feds .

This way the Gov. Agencies know who and what lot of powder was abused if need be !.
