Been working up some loads for a 77 mm Ruger Mk II Stainless (boatpaddle stock)I picked up. Using 70 gr RL22 and 150 gr NBT's getting 3215 fps and nice 3/4" three shot groups. With 175 gr Hornady SP and 64.5 gr of same powder getting 2925 fps and tight 3/4" or smaller groups - all using WLR primer. These are high end loads so don't start here - they are safe in my rifle but may not be in yours - also velocity deviations are very small = 4-20 fps. The thing that is nice about this rifle is I have not had to do a thing to the bedding and each time to the range the impact point stays put.

I have the same rifle/calibre and have not had to do a thing to it for satisfactory accuracy. I used to load 154 hornady's in her for deer size game and managed to get a 3/8" group one day. Mostly just under 1" though. I don't load it for deer sized game anymore since buying my 25/06. It also loves federal premium 175gr TB loads. Sub moa with those also.

Have you had the chance to compare recoil with that rifle to other 7rem mags? I load for three and it by far kicks the hardest. It is a tough rifle though. Mine's taken a pounding and she's none the worse for wear.

rifleman, your experience seems to be borne out by Ken Waters. About 5 years ago he wrote an article in "Handloader" Magazine and his conclusion was that the most accurate load he was able to work up in the 7mm Remington Magnum was a 150-grain Ballistic Tip pushed by about 67 grains of IMR 7828 or Reloder 22.

I've had great results with 162 Hornady and 66.5 grains of H4831. Shoots sub inch and has a velocity of 3000 fps.

my part.) Too bad it's not recomended for hunting!
The 175 Hornady Interlock with 76.0gr H-870 is my
favorite hunting load for consistent accuracy at
all ranges but the powder is no longer available
so I hear. These were chronographed with a CED Millineum and all results were from bench rest.
These are not particularly hot loads but as always
work up from below! BLR7

About the recoil - when I am at the range I am also usually shooting a 338 WM and a 270. The 7mm sort of just sits in the middle - closer to the 270. I just took the stock to my favorite gunsmith to have him replace that hard rubber butt pad that comes on the boat paddle stock with a Pachmyr Accelerator - will also add 1/2" to the pull length which I like. I specifically looked for a Ruger 7mm in stainless with this stock - it will not break or peel and the stock is not hollow so it won't crack either. Generally I am not a synthetic fan - but I have grown to like the looks of this stock with its inserts and stainless steel sling swivels- the dealer told me that used Rugers with this stock are very much in demand. I want to try the new Barnes Triple Shocks in 140 gr - test reports say they are very accurate and penetrate beyond their weight class.

Used this load out of hornady volume 11 book for 31yrs out of 3 different 7mags-139gr Hornady Interlock-with H-4831-69.8grs--14 elk and count less deer, with this load and bullet.

Most accurate load for my rifle was found to be:

62.5 grains IMR 4831, using a nosler 160gr partition.

rifle will shoot 1/2" groups at 100yds with this load. I also had a trigger job synthetic stock, barrel free floated with glass bedded action.
