triggerlooking for 7mm-08 with 154 gr recommendation
I know it's a long shot but looking for suggested powder/loads for 7mm-08 with Hornady 154 gr RN bullets. Hornady book looks light loads, Hodgdon web site looks heavy. Hoping someone has a load they use.
I have H414, IMR 4350, H4350, RL 15, Varget , W748
IMR 4895
Thanks

i load 42 gr. with these 3
with the powders you have, with heaver bullets I would try 414 or 4350
But that just me..

Thanks.
I use RL15 and Varget with 140 gr bullets. They both work well. 42 grains. Burn rate may be a little fast for 154 RN (lots of bearing surface)
Think I will try H414 with the 154 gr. Hodgdon data shows 43 to 46 grains.

AtkinsonH414 would be my choice to play with, its a great powder, WW760 is H414 btw. Ive had great luck in the 308 with H414 nothing competes with it velocity wise, book loads "in my guns" are on the weak side, even in my Sav 99..

This load is for a friend that likes to still/walk hunt in heavy cover. He has compact Ruger with a short barrel in 7-08.
I had limited access to the rifle but had checked for OAL with the 154 RN. Only had a 29 bullets to work with.
I tried H414 with a CCI 200 and Rem brass, bullet .20 off the lands.
Hodgdon data shows start at 43 grains with max at 46 grains.
loaded one at 43 and one at 44 to check for pressure and rolled the dice with the rest at 45 grains. Figuring at the distance he shots no need to push the max.
No pressure signs at 45 grains and it grouped well enough (using a truck for a rest.) Left him with 22 loaded rounds.
Yesterday he shot a cull buck at 30 yds. High shoulder shot. Bullet passed through and the buck dropped.
He is pleased with it.
