280 Remington Load
Both of my Nossler and Lyman books say that a good powder, for a 7mm Nossler SB bullet, used for a 280 Remington, needs IMR 4350. Books says it's not interchangeable with Accurate 4350 (which I have).

Wanted to know your thoughts? Is it best to use IMR and not AA? Anyone have any favorite load data for their 280? All feedback is welcome Smiler Thank you all

Most recent burn rate chart (2018)

Suggests you MAY be able to load a bit more AA4350 than IMR

Easy to start with the low charge suggested and work up
Also-- just contact AA for their 280 loads

When used in suitable cartridges, IMR-4350 is an excellent powder.

I'd recommend trying H-4831, too. It does wonders in my two .270 Win rifles.

RL-19 & RL-22 ought to give you excellent results.

Finally, IMR-7828 would probably be as good as any other powder.

Best of luck to you.

Oh yeah, if I were given a hunting rifle do-over, I'd but a good quality .280 Rem and never need another rifle. The '06 is assuredly king of North American big game cartridges (.308 is prince), the .280 Rem is underrated and overachiever. I own an amazing shooting Sako AV 7MM Rem Mag. But the 7MM Rem Mag, in reality, has nothing on the .280 Rem. 200 FPS won't define success. And there's sectional density magic in .284 caliber bullets.

Had Remington introduced the .280 Rem and authentic .280 Rem velocities in its Model 700, the 7MM Rem Mag wouldn't have become as popular. Just my opinion...

The 175 grain .284 caliber Partition has legendary penetration ability. It'll probably shoot through-and-through a giant Sequoia. That might be hyperbole, but it will penetrate.

Nothing wrong at all with trying AA 4350. Sometimes manuals just publish powders that are more popular. By all means, give it a go and see if your rifle likes it.
