cal30 1906Anybody want to share a good 220 grain 30-40 load?
i have looked in my manuals and was leaning tward Imr 3031 Or Imr 4350 for my 220 load in my Krag, and 3031 with a 170 grain in my Ruger #3.

snowmanCal 30 I would suggest you keep pressures in your Krag as low as possible. I have loaded 220 gr bullets for a friends Win 1895. $0 grs of H4831 shot well . Suggest you start at 37 or 38 grs and work up watching for any signs of excessive pressure. Your Ruger is a much stronger action and will handle much higher pressures. If you work up some higher pressure loads for the Ruger be very careful you don't get them mixed up and shoot them in your Krag.3031 will work but a slower powder may be better. 4895 or 4320 would both be good.Hope that helps.

seafire/B17G3031... would be my choice...
I normally feed mine, an 1898 cavalry model..
180 gr Speer RNs and 25 grains of SR 4759 for an MV right at 2100 fps..

1895winWith a 220 gr. Sierra RN, I load 44.0 grains of IMR4350 and 46.0 grains with a 180RN. The nice thing is in my 1895, the 200s are dead on @ 100yds and the 180s are about 2" high so I don't have to resight when I change loads.

cal30 1906I went with 31 grains of IMR3031 with a 220 grain Hornady round nose.
I have not chrongraphed them yet but from a 22" barrel I suspect @2000 fps or slightly less.
They shoot well also.
