your best 270 wsm load?
I've got a new t3 lite I'm ready to start working on. I'm going to start w/ 130 interbonds and 140 accubonds. What has worked best for you 270wsm shooters? I've got Varget, rel 19, 22, 25 & IMR 4831,7828
Thanks in advance,
Stevo

I'm glad you asked that question. I'm in the same boat you are. I just bought a Ruger All-weather in 270 WSM. I have some 140 Accubonds and am looking for info. Let's see what shakes loose.

I used my Remington 700 .270 for more than 25 years now.
Best load for the 130 gr. has been 58-60gr. H-4831 and 4831sc (sc easier to load) and nearly the same for R-22 (check your reloading manual to make certain). In all the articles I've read over the years say 4831 and the 130 in the 270win go together like peachs and cream.
I forgot to ask you barrel lenght, but you should get at least 3100fps. Don't know if it will help but this has been a 1 moa load (58gr)in 2 barrels now. about .015 off lands. (again, this is only my load, use your manuals please) I even used magnum primers if the weather is going to be very cold (around 20 or below). not sure if i need it or not. never had any signs of pressure, other than the occasional primer that started to flaten a bit. brass would last about 9-10 loads.
Regarding the 140,s the only ones I've used were the Barnes and I didn't have much luck with them, 270 hole in and .30 hole out. I want my energy to stay in the animal, not head out the back door. Anyway that's it....

My current load for the 270 WSM is the 140 gr Ballistic Tip or Accubond, 66 grs of RL 22 and 215 primers. The COL is 2.86".

Check loads with data at shortmags.org or the powder and bullet companies.

Last year I used the maximum load of MagPro and 140 gr BT's on deer. The bullet does not exit on large deer but they fall right there. This season I am going to shoot Accubonds.
140 gr A Frame Start Max.
RL 19 59.5 3006 64.0 3177
RL 22 61.4 2996 66.0 3184
RL 25 64.6 3000 69.5 3188

My 270WSM likes H4831sc and some old Win Silvertiip BT's (not Ballistic ST's) that I had on the shelf. Since the 1st 2 shots from a cold bbl are almost always touching, I haven't done much experimenting. But from what I have read MagPro is the magic powder for the 270 WSM. If I could find any around here, I'd try it.

to Coolhunt: I hate to tell you this, but a .270 you've been shooting is not the same as the .270 WSM. The .270 WSM has only been out for less than 5 years.

Thanks for all the input. I too have read about Magpro being the stuff for the 270wsm. I think the rel 19 & 22 will get tried first as I have a good supply of both I use in other caliber. If they don't work out I guess I find out if somebody in town sells Magpro.

Mr. JIm- you're right across the river from me. Home is Fremont.

Thanks again,
Steve

Hi Stevo. I've been to a few gun shows there. I just bought my 270 WSM for an elk hunt this October in Montana. My two hunting buddies and I are out to the range this Saturday. I still need to get used to it and finish sighting in. I have an earlier M77 in 22-250. It's the same short action so I'm considering borrowing the scope and rings from it just to have a spare on the trip. With no iron sights on the 270, if I damage the scope I've got a problem. Good to hear from you.

I would try some of those Accubonds with Reloder 22 and 25, and if they don't work for you, try the IMR-7828. My guess is if you start with Reloder 19 with the 130 gr bullets at around 61 gr and work up to around 65 or 66 grs, you may find a load in there that shoots good enough that you don't even try another powder.
My loads? 65 gr of Vihtavuouri N-165, 140 gr Accubond, Federal 210 primer. around 3100 fps, groups under an inch for 3 shots at 100 yards, sometimes way under.
With the 130 gr bullet, (Ballistic Tip, Solid Base or even Sierra Prohunter) 63.5 gr Reloder 19, CCI-200, around 3150 good accuracy around 1 MOA.

Bullets are pretty worthless. All they do is hang around waiting to get loaded.

Got this load from another Tikka T3 270WSM fellow: 140 gr. Accubonds, 71.0gr Retumbo(Compressed LOad) pushing about 3200+ft/s. Low recoil.

I have this load reloaded and ready for my other new T3 LS 270WSM, just need to mount the scope and get to the range. I have some other powders and recipes to try, with the Accubonds and Barnes TSX 140gr.
Just need to find tge time to experiment.

Steve My Sav 11 270 WSM just loves the 130 gr interbond. RL22 is good but H4831SC is super. 3 shot groups under 1 inch @ 200 yds. 67 grs is max in my rifle. Work up from 63 or 64 grs.
