My favorite load for the 280 Ackley consists of
58gr RL 19 150BT CCI 200 RP brass 2950fps
Accuracy is excellent (0.3" or better 3 shot groups) and performance on game is great. Another favorite is 140 BT 62gr IMR 7828 FED 215 RP brass
3220 fps (0.54" 3 shot groups). Barrel length is 24".

140 nosler part.
norma case
federal 210 primer
reloader 22 63gr
.4 moa good primer pocket life (10 reloads)
same with 65 gr rl 22, .7 moa poor primer pocket life (3 reloads)

same components with h4831sc got preasure signs at 62gr,(extractor marks) with 59gr I have my best groups .3 moa still plan to work up this load a little sorry no crono

nosler no. 5 lists best acc. with imr4831 58.5 and rem. cases 3164fps
best vel with 63 rl22 3196 24 inch barrel

you can pretty well bet that these 2 powders are the best for 140 gr bullets,

If you want speed, IMR4831, RL19, if you want accuracy, AA3100, if you want both, N165. This was for the 140gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip.

280 ACK. Imp.
120 gr. Hornady SP.
Rem. case
WLR primer
58 gr. of IMR 4350
1 inch, usually less at 100 yds.
Book says it should be doing about 3100 to 3200 fps. in 24 in. barrel. Haven't chronoed yet.
No obvious sign of pressure.
Case life seems to be forever.
No trimming except to even up case mouths.

Russell,
I have been shooting a 280 ACK IMP for 12 years now. My favorite load is a 120 Barnes X bullet with 64.5 grains of H-4350, 210 match primer, but seated out to 3.400. I had my rifle throated out so I could seat the bullets out farther. The average chronograph speed stays between 3380 & 3400 fps, and will shoot half inch or better if I do my part. Will stay under moa out to 300, and everything that has been shot up close or out to 300 plus has dropped in it's tracks or went less than 30 yards and I have never recovered a bullet yet. I also use a 140 partition with 62.5 grain load H 4350, 210 Match and oal of 3.4 and it
does 3240. this is from a 24 inch barrel and is also very accurate and deadly DRBOB
