I don't know what you mean by TOP loads in the 9.3x62, but I can tell you what I have used on game that has been effective. I have used the 250 gr. Nosler accubond, 250 gr. Barnes TTSX, and 286 gr. Nosler partition on game, and have been happy with all three. The powders I like are RL-15 and Varget. Look at the Nosler and Barnes data, either on their website or in the book, and start with their starting loads and work up. Decide which loads have the combination of velocity and accuracy you want. Every rifle is different so I can not tell you what will work best in your rifle. I use a Ruger #1S and a Ruger 77, and both were easy to find accurate loads for.

Thanx Dale but I am looking for loads with 286gr. bullets.
Most data is anemic! I loaded heavier in my rifle when it was a 9.3X57!

I'm not shy.

My favorite load for the 286 gr. Nosler partition is what Nosler lists as the maximum load in their manual with Varget powder. It gives me 2350 fps (chronographed) in my Ruger 77 with a 23" barrel. You might get a little more velocity than that but I don't think you would get enough to make much difference on game. Good luck with your load development. Hope you post your results here for everyone to see.

I was getting 2415 fps with a 286gr. Prvi in my 9.3x57 (chroneyed) with a 23+" bbl on my Husky. When I had dpcd rechamber the resized 8x57 brass had been reloaded 9 times and was still truckin'

Thanx again!

Will keep it posted.

You can keep working up from the book data until you find the max for your rifle. I have heard RL-17 is a really good powder in the 9.3x62, but of course it is hard to find right now. Please let all of us 9.3x62 shooters know what you find.

Yeah, that is what I had heard also! I have about 5# of RL17 so I am set.
I just primed some 8mm/o6AI and 9.3 brass. Will be loading it up soon, but the weather is a little too nasty for my Old Bones!

P.S. Dale sending you a PM.

I use 63 gr Ramshot Big Game with a north fork 286. I get over 2500 fps.

BB,
I have the brass on my bench ready to load. That is one of the powders that I am going to try as well as RL17 and MR2000 when I can get a fairly calm and warm range day.

Is H414 being discontinued?
Will W760 still be offered?

286 gr. A-Frame with 62.70 of RL-17 gets me right at 2360 fps. 63.0 grains gets me just under 2375 fps. This is with Lapua brass.
Note - I think I have the worlds slowest barrel.

I load to just under 2400 because the A-Fs kill so well at that speed.

What he means is top loads are never published for the 7x57, 8x57 and 9,3x62 due to some old guns with weak actions..Allways been that way for fear of frivolous law suits.

I have a lot of loads I can send to your email if you have a good 98 Mauser or its equivalent. or if you have a copy of Pierre van der Walts book, Dangerous Game Cartridge. It has max load data for the 9,3x62 published apparently for the 9.3s on up, it's a cornucopia of information for big bores..Pages of data both foreign and US. The caliber can be loaded to walk on the heels of the 375 H&H. I defy anyone to tell the difference in the two on live game.. A grand dangerous game cartridge.

760 is H414 they figure it out and decided to put it in one can..760 is here to stay,

Puddle, yes indeed you do have the slowest barrel in existence or your chronograph has a leak in it. rotflmo

PM me and I will send you heaps of articles and loads from various publications. I also have John Barness's article on handloader with data on Ramshot powder. I have shared this info with over 30 people on AR Forum.

I have found Varget is best in my 110 year old Simson Mauser 98 with 24 inch barrel. I get 2400 fps with Varget and Re15 and no trimming required after 4 reloads. I use Lapua Mega 285gr bullets.

Ray, I keep checking but the chrony stays dry - no leaks. So I blame the barrel - a 10 twist factory.

I decided screw it - and loaded the 300 gr. A-Frame to an average MV of 2,361 using Big Game and went after another buffalo this season.

I could easily go faster, but those dang A-Frames kill so well at right around that speed. I'm thinking that will be my main hunting round going forward.

Cheers

Sounds good to me Puddle, that will kill buffalo!

Ive been playing with CFE223 and RL-16,and RL-17 Im leaning towards RL-17 for no particular reason as they all work equally.

After all my tests I realized I load my 375 Ruger and H&H to 2500 FPS with 300 gr bullets, my 9.3x62 to 2400 give or take 50 fps fps with the 300 gr.Swift or 286 Nosler, no wonder I can't tell any difference on buffalo etc!

I realize I can get 2600 plus fps in the Ruger and H&H but I got better results at 2400 to 2500 in both calibers, with most of todays bullets according to Doctari which I doubted to start with but found him correct.

Same here, Ray.

I slowed down my 300 grain A-Frame load in the H&H to 2,450 - 2,460 fps and I cannot tell the difference on buffalo between that and factory loads.

One has to realize that velocity creates expansion, and expansion can in many cases can be detrimental to penetration.. This applies mostly to big bores and big animals IMO.

Hi Hipshoot,

I can get near 2500 f/s with 285/286 grs using W760. From 66/67 grs would do. My rifle has a 60 cm (23,6") barrel.
Good luck
