338 win 200 gr BT
I bit last year on the concept that shooting one rifle all the time, and hunting with one rifle all the time will make you more proficient than taking a different gun to the range each shooting session. To this end, I decided to work up a deer load for my lightweight 338 winmag. Winchester brass, Win LRMP, ballistic tip 200 gr, 60gr AA 2520. Meters great in my RCBS 2000, very low recoil. chronos at 2850 at 15 feet on my prochrono. 6 fps SD. .5" groups for 3 shots if I do my part. Recoils far less than the elk load I worked up, which is 73.5gr IMR4350 and a 225 gr Nosler part. Chronos at 2975. I'm pretty sure either load would take elk cleanly, but why not shoot the hotter load at wapati. The 200gr load seems to make more sense on the little black tail I chase around here in the Pacific NW. Still probably overkill, but better safe than sorry right?

I used the 200 gr. BT on a mule deer and it worked fine. The load I used is 66.0/RL-15, Win. brass, and Fed. 215 primer. My best group has been 0.26". Velocity is just over 2900 fps.

I load the 200 gr BT in a 338-06 AI, 25.5" barrel and can't get anywhere near 2900 with R15. I get 2880 with 64.0 gr R19.
