Looking for any input on above caliber.
Am presently building heavy barrel varmint gun with 1 in 12 twist, 3 lands and grooves,Super Match Pac Nor 28 inch barrel on a Rem 700 blue printed short action.
My plan is to use Lapua brass and Redding dies as recommended by my gunsmith Darrel Holland out of Powers,Oregon.
He recommends 70 and 80 gr. Nosler Ballistic tips and Hornady 87gr. Hollow points.
Powders he likes:
Vargit, The IMR's 4895,4064,4350.
Any loads/ experience would be appreciated.

I always used imr 4350 with the 75 gr bullet in the .243 Win. My old M-70 always was able to handle a slightly over max load with very good accuracy. I use standard primers.

So you need to work up.

I used surplus 4831 with a drop tube. It shot well but it is a hassle.

imr 4064 is very accurate but the velocities are not as high.

Here's a load that was given to me that has been a accuracy load in every gun it's been used in! I have a Rem. 700 pre-warning bull-barreled 243 that loves this load!!! 1-hole@100yds. IMR 3031/37grns. 75gr bullet. I use 75gr Hornady V-max/moly's.

I used a load just about like the one above with imr 3031 in my .243 back in 1957-59 for 200 yard position target shooting. I was not a one hole load but very accurate.

I have a .243 AI with a 24" Pac-Nor barrel that loves 70 gr Nosler BT's. I push them out of Lapua brass with Fed210M primers lighting 44 grains of Varget. This gives me an avg.MV of 3711 fps. This load shoots around .5 MOA. I'm not sure what the starting load for a standard .243 Win would be but I'm guessing around 36-37 grains. Good Luck.
