257Roberts new pet load with 110 Accubonds
My sons .257 Roberts in Ruger M77 MKII Ultra Light just got a new favorite load.
WW brass, Fed primers, 2.899"oal, 41.5 grains of IMR 4350 and a 110 Nosler Accubond is printing under an inch for 5 shots.
It also shoots 117 Sierras 2.76" oal, to the same point of aim with the same load and they are right at 1" groups for 5 shots.
Have yet to chronograph this load but I'm assuming it is around 2850 or so.

Sounds pretty decent. I really wanted Accubonds to shoot in the wife's Ruger M77 Ultralight .257, but they just wouldn't. But a stiff load of Re19 makes 100 grain TSXs shoot little groups and kill things dead, so we're sticking with that. Smiler

For years I badgered Bill Steigers to make BBCs in .257 to no avail; so for years I've used 115gr Partitions. I may have to give the Accubonds a try, but then there's this old saying about things that aren't broken.

Granted, it's not a Ruger but my Remington really liked 43.0gr of H4350 and the 110 AB.

Have fun!

Regards,

Robert

Getting my boys rifle ready to hunt I shot a mixed group of 110 Accubonds and 117 Sierra's (3 of each) into a .76" group, 2" above the bullseye at 100 yards, that rifle is ready to go.

How did those Accubonds work on deer and hogs?

My Ruger ultralight, an very early gun in 250-3000 shoots 40 grs of H414 for almost 3000 F
PS killed several deer this year and a load of 38 gr.s in my savage 99 did in about 4 last year for self and relitives...all with the 110 gr. accubond...one went 30 yards, the rest bit the dust at the shot. One elk went about 40 yards for a young lady who shoots well and placed the bullet behing the shoulder at about 175 yards...So far Ive recovered one bullet from an elk and it was a text book mushroom, the rest were pass thrus on deer.

Try Norma MRP, it will do over 3100fps with 115gr partitions or 110gr Accubonds.

RL23 is just as accurate as MRP. RL26 will almost give 3200fps with 110gr Accubonds.RL16 and RL17 are great for 100gr bullets and very accurate.

So will H414 if you work up your own load..Its a deadly killer. I also shoot the accubond in my 257 Ackley, 30-06, 7x57, 308 and 270 and .338. it just works.
