Rem cases CCI 250 primers,59 grs IMR 4831 and a 139 gr Hornady. This is a max load so approach from below. This makes an incredible combination on deer.

May be a little hot in some rifles, but is fine in my Rem 700 Mt. Rifle. Groups right around an inch @ 100 yards and I'm getting 2920 fps at the muzzle out of 22" barrel

140gr Hornady Interbond
58.5gr H4831
Seated to 3.40" COAL

I get 1/2" to 5/8" groups at 100yards with this load. I think my Rem700 must have a long throat to handle this length since it is longer than listed specs. Some data sources say this is 1.5gr over maximum and others I've found on Handloader.com (A-Square data) say 60gr is a max load. Either way this is a hot load so approach with care.

Personally I'd like to find a "less warm" load but when I drop back the powder charge my groups go from 1/2" to 1.5". I'm keep trying to tell myself that 1.5" is just fine for deer hunting out to 250 yards or so - but its not working yet.

You're still inside Hornady data, just. 139-grainers and 56 grains IMR 4350 for me, @ 3.30 max. OAL (mag box of Kwik Klip) = 2900 fps works in my BDL DM, but 57 grains okay too. I think you are fine -- 59.5 grains in my published data (Hornady) is redline for H4831.

I just posted the picture below of my sons first group from his .280 he is 9 years old.
He can't sit and shoot this rifle much but I'm thinking it's pretty impressive for a 9 year old. He's been shooting .22 rinfire since he was 4 and centerfires since he was 6.
This load is 53 grains of IMR 4350 and a 130 grain Speer. His rifle is a pre 64 Win M70 Featherweight, synthetic stock and 3-9x40 Leupold VXI
We have not chronied the load.
When his older brother was little he shot the exact same powder weight and bullet in his .284 Win rifle and killed a mess of animals with it namely his first Bull elk, a couple doe antelopes and a couple nice mule deer bucks.

My 11 year old son drew a cow tag this year, he will be able to start hunting on his 12th birthday so I've been working on a load for his .280 that will allow a 12 year old to handle the recoil and have enough whop to put down his elk.
Came up with 53 grains of IMR 4350 WW brass and 139 grain Hornady GMX. The load clocks at 2870 fps and my son can shoot about 6 shots from the bench without any trouble and he turns in 1.25" groups with it.
His rifle is a pre 64 M70 Featherweight rebarreled with a 280 barrel (unknown make SS) and a real nice light synthetic stock, Leupold 3-9x40.

Using 7 x 64 Brenneke. They believe that the .280 Rem reloads are interchangeable, given the similarity of the brass and their ability to gunpowder? obviously trying with prudence corresponding to a recharger with over thirty years of experience. Thanks in advance. Hector

Hector is correct (and that's a good load, Snellstrom.)
