.300 Weatherby and Reloader 25
Can anyone provide firsthand feedback on load information for the .300 Weatherby using Alliant Reloader 25? I will be loading bullets in 180 gr., 200 gr., and 220 gr. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I tried RL 25 in my 300 WBY and decided it will not do anything RL 22 will not do and you have to burn a lot more of it.

I tested it in my Remington 700 Classic chambered for 300 WBY that has a 24 inch barrel. The groups were not as good as I get with either RL 22 or H 4831SC, however another rifle might prefer RL 25, who knows?

These loads were put up in Weatherby cases using Fed 215M primers:

86 grains RL 25 / 180 Nosler Part / 3015 fps
87 grains RL 25 / 180 Nosler Part / 3082 fps
88 grains RL 25 / 180 Nosler Part / 3109 fps

86 grains RL 25 / 180 Speer spitzer/3028 fps
87 grains RL 25 / 180 Speer spitzer/3063 fps

These loads were put up in Remington cases (which have less case capacity) and used Fed 215M primers:

85 grains RL 25 / 180 Nosler part/ 3120 fps
85 grains RL 25 / 180 Hornady SP / 3086 fps

84 grains RL 25 / 180 Nosler Partition Gold
3046 fps (max in my rifle)

Hope this helps, R Flowers

Thank for the info. I am shooting a Win Model 70 in .300 Weatherby with a 26" barrel. Perhaps the 2" longer barrel length will show some difference between RL22 and RL25. I hope so as I now have a lb. of powder I'd like to use for something other than fertilizer. By the way, my last name is Flowers as well. :-)

Yeah, the 26 inch barrel on your gun should allow for the slower burning RL 25 to show some advantage.

That is ironic that your last name is Flowers also. However, I guess I should not be TOO surprised, my dad and his parents moved out here from Texas to find work when my dad was a little kid.

You might give IMR7828 a try,I get 3240fps with 180gr bullet and excellent accuracy..

Good Luck!!

I agree with this advice. I get the same velocity with 86 gr. of this powder and 180 gr. bullets. 83 gr. of IMR7828 gives me 3000+ f.p.s. with 200 gr. bullets.

My 300 Wby is a Remington 700 Limited Classic with 24 in. barrel.

What LE270 said!! I also use that same load in my .300 Weatherby with great results.

I also like the H4831. I use 80 grains and the 180 nosler partition. My rifle is the 700 classic. I have a brand new Remington Stainless sendero I have yet to shoot in the same caliber. I hope it shoots as well as the classic.

My experience with my 300 Weatherby suggests that H 4831 may give noticeably better accuracy, but at a sacrifice of about 100 to 200 or a bit more f.p.s. of the velocity you can get with max loads of IMR7828.
